NATHAN JOHNSON NAMED COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN
Former W&L Track and Cross Country Standout Named to Second Team

DELAWARE, Ohio -- Washington and Lee graduate Nathan Johnson (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A Second Team Academic All-America selection and December 2005 graduate, Johnson earned a degree in mathematics and is currently pursuing a master's degree in math at NC State University. He is the second W&L athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors this season, joining Courtney Harrison '06, who earned First Team accolades as an at-large selection just weeks ago.

Johnson was a two-year letterwinner for both the cross country and track & field programs, serving as cross country captain during his senior season. Johnson was twice named the ODAC Cross Country Runner of the Year and ODAC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and he won the ODAC Cross Country Championship both seasons. He won the 2004 NCAA South/Southeast Regional and twice qualified for the NCAA National Championship meet. As a track athlete, he was twice named the ODAC Co-Athlete of the Year and won the ODAC outdoor 1,500 and 5,000 meter championship. The ODAC Indoor and Outdoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year both seasons, he earned CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-America honors last season and received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship this past fall. Additionally, he was named the W&L Senior Male Athlete of the Year for 2005-06.

With Johnson’s selection to the ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-America team, W&L improved its' all-time total to 42 athletes honored since 1975.

The CoSIDA College Division consists of athletes from all NCAA Division II, III and NAIA schools across the United States.
