Gladysz Named to Second Team; Gaillard Named Honorable Mention

Senior Christine Gladysz

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its 2005 All-America Teams and Washington and Lee University had two players honored on the squad.

Senior setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) was named to the second team, while senior middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) posted honorable mention accolades.

Gladysz was named to the second team after receiving third team honors as a sophomore and junior. The 2005 ODAC Player of the Year and ODAC Tournament MVP, she totaled 1,346 assists, 350 digs, 116 kills, 86 blocks and 64 service aces this fall. For her career, Gladysz posted 5,216 career assists, the highest total in Old Dominion Athletic Conference history and the 20th-best total in Division III history. She also finished as the school record holder for career aces (254), was second in career digs (1,542) and sixth in career blocks (267).

Gaillard was named to the honorable mention team for the second time in her career, matching the honor she received as a sophomore. A three-time First Team All-ODAC pick and the 2002 ODAC Rookie of the Year, Gaillard recorded 316 kills, 113 blocks and a team-best .407 hitting percentage this season. She finished her career second all-time at W&L in career kills (1,506) and career blocks (412).

The Generals (32-5) won the ODAC Tournament title for the fifth straight season and received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, falling to Southwestern (3-0) in the first round.
