CAROLYN HEDRICK-WILLIAMS RESIGNS EQUESTRIAN POST AT
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee athletic director Mike
Walsh has announced that Carolyn Hedrick-Williams has resigned her part
time position as equestrian coach to spent more time with her family.
"Carolyn has done a superb job in overseeing our equestrian
program," said Walsh. "Our team has improved steadily under
her leadership and our riders have enjoyed their experience in representing
Washington and Lee. We thank Carolyn for all of her hard work on behalf
of W&L and wish her well as she pursues family interests."
"I have enjoyed coaching and developing the W&L
IHSA riding team for the past five and a half years, but as my children
get older, my family's needs must come first," stated Hedrick-Williams.
"This was an extremely difficult decision to make, walking away from
a team I am so proud of before what I feel could be our best season yet.
I will continue to support the team in every way possible and my home
will always remain open to the women and all of our IHSA alums."
Hedrick-Williams was hired in the fall of 1999 as the riding
program moved from club to varsity status. Over the past six seasons she
has helped transform the Generals into one of the region's top programs,
finishing the 2005 campaign as the third ranked team in Zone IV, Region
During her tenure, Hedrick-Williams guided 14 riders to
the regional and zonal competitions with four, Staunton Binsted, Caitlin
Lane, Natalia Maxwell and Sarah Michaels, advancing to the Intercollegiate
Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championships. Lane finished third
in the open flat at the 2005 championships.
Prior to taking over at W&L, Hedrick-Williams was a
member of the riding staff at Southern Seminary College for a total of
11 years. During that time, Sem posted seven IHSA National Championships
and had numerous IHSA National individual winners.
A search for Hedrick-Williams' replacement will begin immediately.
