Generals Ranked 17th in Faceoff Yearboook Preseason Poll

TOWSON, Md. -- Inside Lacrosse released its Faceoff Yearbook preseason Division III men’s lacrosse coaches poll recently and Washington and Lee ranked 17th overall in the voting.

Three-time defending national champion Salisbury sits atop the poll with 85 first-place votes. Middlebury, last season’s NCAA Runner-up, is second in the poll after receiving three first-place votes. Following Middlebury is Nazareth (3rd), Cortland (4th), Gettysburg (5th), Roanoke (6th), Washington College (7th), Lynchburg (8th), Stevens Tech (9th), Wesleyan (10th), Ithaca (11th), Springfield (12th), Ohio Wesleyan (13th), Amherst (14th), Tufts (15th), Hampden-Sydney (16th), W&L (17th), Bowdoin (18th), Geneseo (19th) and Messiah (20th).

Additionally, junior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) was cited as a Preseason Honorable Mention All-American by the Magazine. Lalli posted a .605 save percentage and a 7.46 goals-against average last season.

W&L returns six starters and 22 letterwinners from last season's squad which posted a 9-5 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the ODAC. The Generals open the 2006 campaign by hosting York College on Sat., Feb. 25 at 1:30 pm. W&L's schedule also features six of the preseason Top 20 teams, including non-conference matchups with No. 5 Gettysburg, No. 7 Washington College and No. 11 Ithaca.
