W&L WINS DAN WOOLDRIDGE OVERALL SPORTS CHAMPION CUP
SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has announced that Washington and Lee University has claimed the 2005-06 Dan Wooldridge Overall Sports Champion Cup which recognizes the top overall athletic program in the conference.
W&L garnered the cup for the third consecutive year and the 10th time in the 12-year history of the award. Additionally, the Generals also claimed the men's sports cup and the women's sports cup for the second straight season and the fifth time overall, a feat that has never been accomplished by another ODAC school.
W&L, which won a record nine ODAC championships during the 2005-06 season, posted 139 total points to outdistance Bridgewater (112.0), Virginia Wesleyan (112.0), Roanoke (104.0), Lynchburg (101.0), Randolph-Macon (84.5), Guilford (67.5), Eastern Mennonite (67.5) and Emory & Henry (52.0).
The Generals tallied 56.5 points in men's sports and 82.5 points in women's sports. Bridgewater (54.0) and Virginia Wesleyan (66.0) finished in second place, respectively.
Washington and Lee's 23 varsity sports combined to post a 194-103-6 (.650) overall record and won a total of 10 conference championships during the 2005-06 season.
