Madden and Miller Named to First Team

Senior David Miller

DELAWARE, Ohio -- Washington and Lee senior second baseman David Miller (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) and junior outfielder James Madden (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) have both been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District III Baseball team, which was announced on Monday. Miller and Madden each earned first team honors.

Madden, a double major in Spanish and history, earned first-team accolades for the second-straight season. In 2007, he batted .281 (32-114) with four doubles, three triples, two homeruns and 16 RBI. He also was 8-for-8 in stolen bases.

A business management major, Miller was the 2007 ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for baseball. He started all 32 games, totaling a .362 batting average and leading the team in at-bats (141), hits (51), doubles (13) and RBI (30). Miller ends his career second all-time at W&L in career hits (185), career at-bats (506) and career batting average (.366) and third all-time with 95 RBI.

The Generals concluded the 2007 season with an 18-14 overall record after making their fifth-straight trip to the ODAC Tournament.

With their first team selections, Madden and Miller will now go on to the national ballot where they could earn Academic All-America honors.

The criteria for the CoSIDA Academic All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve, and claim a GPA of at least a 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Washington and Lee is a member of District III, which includes players from small colleges in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
