Generals Return Six Starters for the 2007 Season

SALEM, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) released its baseball preseason coaches poll on Thursday and Washington and Lee was picked third among the conference's 10 teams.

Defending ODAC champion Virginia Wesleyan sits atop the poll after receiving six first-place votes and is followed by Bridgewater, who garnered four first-place nods.

The Generals, who posted an 18-15-1 overall mark last season, return a strong corps to the field in 2007, including junior outfielder James Madden (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park), who earned Second Team All-ODAC honors last season. Madden hit .435 with a team-best seven homeruns and 30 RBI in his first season as a starter. Also returning are senior catcher and designated hitter Jordan Wesley (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) and senior second baseman David Miller (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton). Wesley notched a team-best 32 RBI and four homeruns, while Miller tallied 28 RBI with a .345 hitting percentage last season.

W&L opens the 2007 season with a trip to Phoenix, Ariz., to take on Hastings, Trinity and Whitworth in the Desert Classic on Feb. 22-24.
