Snoddy and Whitfield Garner Second Team Honors

Senior Hunter Whitfield

NORWALK, Conn. -- Washington and Lee placed two players on the All-South Region team which was announced by the website on Friday morning.

Junior cornerback Mark Snoddy (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) and senior offensive lineman Hunter Whitfield (Tuscaloosa, Ala./Central) were both named to the second team.

Snoddy received the honor after finishing as the runner-up for the Dudley Award, which is presented to the Virginia Division II-III/NAIA Player of the Year. A two-time First Team All-ODAC and First Team Academic All-District selection, Snoddy led the ODAC and ranked among the national leaders with nine interceptions and 20 passes defensed. He totaled 32 tackles this season and set a new record for career interceptions (17), breaking a record that had stood for 55 seasons.

Whitfield was also named to the second team after receiving First Team All-ODAC laurels for the second-straight season. He captained the Generals' offensive line which helped pave the way for W&L's first ODAC Championship since the 1985 season.

Wesley swept the player of the year awards, with quarterback Chris Warrick being named the Offensive Player of the Year and defensive end Bryan Robinson being named the Defensive Player of the Year. Carnegie Mellon's Rich Lackner was tabbed the Coach of the Year. The ODAC received just one first team selection, senior wide receiver Chris Barnett of Guilford.

Washington and Lee finished the 2006 season with a 7-4 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Generals advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the first time in school history and played in their first postseason game since the 1951 Gator Bowl.
