SPEERSCHNEIDER RESIGNS AS ASSISTANT WOMEN'S TENNIS COACH
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Curt Speerschneider, assistant women's tennis coach and assistant director of the Duchossois Center at W&L, has resigned to accept the position of head women's tennis coach at Skidmore College.
"I want to thank Washington and Lee, in particular Mike Walsh, Cinda Rankin, David Detwiler and the women's tennis team, for the opportunity to work with some outstanding student-athletes and University community members," said Speerschneider. "It has been four memorable years that I will always cherish throughout my coaching career."
During his four years at W&L, Speerschneider helped guide the women's tennis team to four semifinal showings at the NCAA Division III Championships, including three runner-up finishes. During that time, the Generals posted a 98-9 overall record and a 41-0 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Additionally, Speerschneider helped guide Lindsay Hagerman '05 and Emily Applegate '07 to the 2005 and 2006 NCAA Division III Singles Championship, respectively. He also helped coach W&L players to 20 All-America citations over the past four seasons.
"Curt is an excellent coach and we are going to miss him," said W&L Head Coach Cinda Rankin. "He was totally involved in every aspect of our program and is someone that will be difficult to replace. He had a tremendous rapport with our athletes and was involved with many community programs through his work at the tennis center."
Speerschneider takes over a Skidmore program that won the 1998 Division III Championship and has gone 384-160 over the past 25 seasons.
A national search for Speerschneider's replacement will begin immediately.
