KIKI JACOBS RESIGNS AS WOMEN'S SWIMMING COACH AT W&L
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Athletic Director Mike Walsh has announced that Head Women's Swimming Coach and Aquatics Director Kiki Jacobs has resigned her position effective July 28 to accept the Associate Athletic Director position at Oberlin College.
"I have had a great experience for 15 years at Washington and Lee and it has been a great run," said Jacobs. "Mike Walsh and the department have been wonderful to work with and I appreciate them for taking a chance on someone just out of graduate school for the head coaching position. I will miss W&L, the student-athletes and the friends that I have made among the University community, but I am looking forward to this new professional challenge."
Jacobs arrived at W&L in 1991 after serving as an assistant swimming coach at Western Illinois University and Dartmouth College. During her 15 seasons with the Generals, she compiled a 121-79 (.605) overall record and has claimed 13 straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships from 1994-2006. She twice guided the Generals to a school-record 10 wins, including the 2005-06 season when W&L went 10-5 overall.
The 10-time ODAC/Atlantic States Coach of the Year, Jacobs helped mentor W&L women's swimmers to 116 All-ODAC citations, 10 ODAC/Atlantic States Swimmer of the Year awards and 17 All-America citations. Additionally, Jacobs served the 2002-03 season as the interim men's swimming coach, leading the Generals to a 5-6 record and coaching Eric Ritter '04 to All-America honors.
"Kiki has done a remarkable job with our women's swimming team and aquatics program during her time at Washington and Lee," said Walsh. "Her strong interpersonal skills and management abilities will serve her well in her new role as an athletics administrator. We were blessed to have Kiki coach and mentor our women's swimmers and her record of success is well documented."
Joel Shinofield, the University's head men's swimming coach since 2003, will assume the duties of aquatics director. A national search for a new women's swimming coach will begin shortly.
