Men's Soccer Standout Among 58 Fall Sport Awardees

Senior Scot Pittman

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Senior Scot Pittman (Waxhaw, N.C./ Charlotte Country Day), a four-year member of the Washington and Lee men's soccer team, has been awarded a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Postgraduate Scholarship. The award is a $7,500 scholarship for academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.

Pittman was one of 58 awardees from all NCAA Divisions to receive the scholarship after participating in a fall sport. The NCAA awards 174 scholarships annually in the fall, winter and spring seasons. Pittman's selection gives W&L seven winners in the last five years and 26 W&L athletes have been so honored since 1970.

A biology major, Pittman has earned a spot on W&L's honor roll three times and dean's list four times. He is also a member of the National Leader Honor Soceity, Omicron Delta Kappa, and serves as a Peer Counseler at W&L.

On the soccer field, Pittman became just the fifth All-America selection for the Generals in 59 seasons with his selection to the third team this past fall. A First Team All-ODAC selection, Pittman started all 17 games during the 2006 season and spearheaded a defense that allowed an average of just 0.52 goals per game and posted 10 shutouts. For his career, Pittman played in 64 games with 55 starts and totaled three assists.

After graduation, Pittman plans on pursuing a law degree at the University of Virginia or the Univeristy of North Carolina-Chapell Hill.
