Sitterson, Snoddy, Gibson and Maurer Nab Weekly Conference Honors

SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee garnered the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive and Defense Players of the Week for football, the Golfer of the Week and the Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending October 8.

For football, sophomore running back Stuart Sitterson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while junior cornerback Mark Snoddy (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Freshman Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) garnered ODAC Golfer of the Week laurels, while sophomore outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) was named the Volleyball Player of the Week.

Sitterson totaled 187 all-purpose yards and tossed two touchdown passes to help lead the Generals to a 28-0 win over Catholic on Saturday. He rushed the ball 21 times for 90 yards, caught a team-best eight passes for 79 yards, returned two punts for 18 yards and was 2-for-2 passing for 20 yards and two scores. Through five games, Sitterson leads the team in rushing and receiving. He has carried 91 times for 273 yards and two touchdowns and has caught 24 passes for 234 yards.

Snoddy posted three tackles, including 1.5 for a loss, and intercepted two passes in the Generals' first shutout since the 2004 season. The defense limited Catholic to just 100 yards of total offense and forced four turnovers. Snoddy's first interception was returned 11 yards to the CUA 3-yardline, setting up W&L's second touchdown on the day. For the season, Snoddy has recorded 13 tackles and leads the ODAC with four interceptions.

Gibson was named the ODAC Golfer of the Week after winning the Greensboro Invitational on Oct. 2-3, his first collegiate tournament. Gibson fired a 70-69--139 (-5) to win the tournament by one stroke. As a team, the Generals finished fourth out of 15 teams with a score of 290-292--582.

Maurer helped lead the W&L volleyball team to a 6-0 week by averaging 3.94 kills, 3.65 digs and 0.59 blocks per game, while hitting .304. She totaled 25 kills and 23 digs in a 3-1 win over Averett en route being named the Tournament MVP at the Averett Invitational over the weekend. The 2005 ODAC Rookie of the Year, Maurer currently leads the team with an average of 3.50 kills per game.
