W&L NABS THREE ODAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee University earned the ODAC Player of the Week awards for the sports of men's soccer, golf and women's cross country for the week ending September 17.
Junior forward Jack Palmer (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) garnered the weekly award in men's soccer while junior Nathaniel James (Keller, Texas/Keller) was honored for his performance in golf and sophomore Jackie Burns (Burke, Va./Woodward Academy) received the ODAC Runner of the Week for women's cross country.
Palmer tallied five goals in a pair of wins to help the W&L men's soccer team improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2000. In the 11-0 win over Bluefield on Thursday, he registered three of the Generals' school-record 11 goals. Palmer followed that performance with a pair of goals in the 5-1 victory over Marymount on Saturday.
James, the 2006 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year, shot a one-under-par 141 to claim the individual title and send the Generals to a first place finish at the Ted Keller Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon. His 70-71 performance was one stroke lower than Hampden-Syndey's Nick Combs.
The 2005 ODAC Rookie and Runner of the Year, Burns helped the W&L women's cross country team take fifth place of 28 teams at the NYU Invitational. She finished third of 262 runners in a time of 19:33.0. The Generals have now won back-to-back ODAC Runners of the Week with Burns' selection following fellow sophomore Becca Taylor's on Sept. 10.
