Among 194 Student-Athletes Recognized From All Virginia Colleges

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Six Washington and Lee student-athletes were named to the Virginia Sports Information Director's (VaSID) Academic All-State team, which was released on Monday afternoon.

Seniors Katie Kingsbury (Jenkintown, Pa./Philadelphia-Montgomery Christian), David Miller (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) and Scot Pittman (Waxhaw, N.C./Charlotte Country Day), juniors Nathaniel James (Keller, Texas/Keller) and Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) and sophomore Elizabeth Webb (Middleburg, Va./Wakefield) were all named to the 194-person team that included student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and Independent Institutions throughout Virginia. To be eligible, student-athletes are required to have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better, must have acheived sophomore academic status and be a starter or key reserve for their team.

Kingsbury is a two-time winner of the ODAC Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and was named one of two recipients of the NCAA Walter Byers Scholarship, the association's top academic honor. A three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete and two-time Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Kingsbury posted a 6-1 record in singles and a 3-1 mark in doubles this season. She established a W&L freshman record for wins in a season with 26 (26-8) and captured the ODAC No. 6 Singles title as a freshman and sophomore. For her career, she notched a 64-17 singles record and a 27-8 doubles record. Kingsbury majored in pyschology at W&L.

A business management graduate, Miller received the ODAC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and was named First Team All-ODAC and Honorable Mention All-South Region as a second baseman. He started all 32 games this spring, totaling a .362 batting average and leading the team in at-bats (141), hits (51), doubles (13) and RBI (30). Miller ended his career second all-time at W&L in career hits (185), career at-bats (506) and career batting average (.366) and third all-time with 95 RBI.

Pittman was a First Team All-ODAC and Third Team All-America selection as a defender for the soccer team. He started all 17 games during the 2006 season and spearheaded a defense that allowed an average of just 0.52 goals per game and posted 10 shutouts. For his career, Pittman played in 64 games with 55 starts and totaled three assists. A biology graduate, Pittman received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship following the fall season.

A politics major, James was named First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-South Region and First Team All-America during the 2007 season. A Golf Coaches Association Scholar All-American as well, he finished in a tie for 19th place at the NCAA Division III Golf Championship this spring. The 2007 ODAC Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, James completed the season with a 74.0 stroke average.

McGlaston earned First Team All-Bluegrass Mountain Conference accolades and was a three-time All-American during the 2006-07 season. He earned First Team All-America honors as a part of the 200 and 400 free relay teams and set school records in the 50 free (20.66), 200 medley relay (1:33.36), 200 free relay (1:21.64) and 400 free relay (3:03.80). A biology major, McGlaston also garnered Second Team Academic All-District honors.

A biochemistry major, Webb earned First Team All-ODAC honors and ODAC Runner of the Year honors in 2007 after winning the conference title in the 800 meters (2:21.76), 1500 meters (4:43.85) and 5000 meters (19:13.96) at the ODAC Outdoor Championships. Webb was also named the ODAC Women's Outdoor Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
