JOSH WILLIAMSON NAMED INTERIM HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Athletic Director Mike Walsh has announced that Associate Athletic Trainer Josh Williamson will serve as interim head athletic trainer effective August 1. Williamson moves to the position after Heather Grant resigned to relocate to Scranton, Pa., with her husband, Mic, the newly-named head men's lacrosse coach at Marywood University.
"We are very fortunate to have someone of Josh's caliber and qualifications to step in as our interim head athletic trainer," said Walsh. "He has done excellent work on behalf of our teams and coaches since arriving in 2004."
Williamson arrived at W&L in August of 2004 as assistant athletic trainer and was promoted to associate athletic trainer in July of 2005. A Robinson, Ill., native, Williamson came to Washington and Lee after serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at DePauw University during the 2003-04 school year. He also assisted the training staffs at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (2001-03) and Indiana State University (2000-03), where he earned both a bachelor of science (2003) and master of science (2004).
“Heather Grant left behind some big shoes to fill, but I look forward to the upcoming year and the new responsibilities that it holds,” said Williamson. “I am confident that myself and the rest of the athletic training staff will be able to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of the W&L athletes and athletics staff.”
A member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association and the Virginia Athletic Trainers Association, Williamson is certified by the NATA-BOC, the American Heart Association (CPR & First Aid) and the American Sports Education Program.
Williamson will serve as interim head athletic trainer until a formal search is concluded.
