Date: May 8, 2007 FOUR GENERALS SELECTED TO NCAA WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Four members of the Washington and Lee women's tennis team have been selected to participate in the NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Championships to be held May 18-20 in Fredericksburg, Va. Seniors Emily Applegate (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) and Ginny Wortham (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) were both selected to the singles field, while sophomore Katie Tabb (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) was chosen as an alternate. Additionally, the doubles team of Applegate and senior Kristen McClung (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) were tabbed to particpate in the doubles championship. Last season's NCAA Division III Singles Champion, Applegate is the proposed second seed for the singles tournament after going 12-0 in 2006-07. Wortham, a three-time All-American in doubles, will participate in the singles championship this season after totaling a 19-3 overall mark. Tabb earned All-America honors in both singles and doubles last season as she advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles championship and semifinals of the doubles championship. She is 16-4 in singles this season. Applegate and MClung were selected to the doubles championship after posting an 11-0 mark during the 2006-07 season. The proposed third seed for the doubles draw, the duo fell in the first round of last season's doubles bracket, but each has earned All-America honors in doubles twice during their careers. The NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles championships will be held hosted by the University of Mary Washington on May 18-20. The team championships will be played at UMW from May 15-17. --GENERALS--
