W&L WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK CRACKS INTO TOP 25
METAIRIE, La. -- The Washington and Lee women's indoor track team and field was picked 25th in the February 7th edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III national rankings.
W&L, who is also second in the NCAA South/Southeast Region, appears in the national rankings for the first time in program history. ODAC-foe Roanoke tops the South/Southeast Region poll and is ranked 18th in the nation.
Freshmen Maggie Sutherland (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley) and Kat Telfeyan (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) and sophomore Stacy Doornbos (Roswell, Ga./Lassiter) lead the way for the Generals. Sutherland has set school records in the high jump (5'3") and the 55-meter hurdles (9.09). Telfeyan also has edited the record books this season with a new program mark in the mile (5:26.02), while Doornbos' performances in the long jump (5.04 m) and the triple jump (10.23) are both season bests.
W&L continues its 2007 campaign on Saturday at the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa. The meet will begin at 9:00 am.
