Served as Assistant Coach During the 2006-07 Season

Eric Ishida

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that Eric Ishida will serve as the interim head women's tennis coach, assistant director of the Duchossois Tennis Center and assistant professor of physical education for the 2007-08 season.

"It is my pleasure to be able to offer this position to Eric Ishida," said Hathorn. "His experience with our women's tennis program, athletic department and university will help to bring a stability and an ease to this time of transition. Eric is an impressive young professional whose understanding of our student-athletes will serve the program well. We are very fortunate to have someone of his capabilities step into this position."

Ishida served as an assistant coach for the Generals during the 2006-07 season, helping lead the women's tennis program to its first-ever NCAA Championship and the school's first team title since the men's tennis team won in 1988. W&L finished the year with a 25-1 overall record and defeated Amherst College, 5-2, in the NCAA final match.

"This is a terrific tennis program with an unprecedented history, and I am honored to be selected as the interim head coach," said Ishida. "This year's team has a good mix of youth, experience, and talent and hopefully we can play off the momentum from last season's success forged by Coach Rankin."

Ishida came to W&L from Ohio University, where he served as the student manager of the Ohio University Golf/Tennis Center from 2001-04. While there, Ishida also served the OU Club Tennis program as a vice president, coach and player. He is a USPTA Certified Teaching Professional and has been a teaching professional since 2002.

A 2004 graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor of science degree in physical education, Ishida competed on the tennis team at Wright State University for three years before completing his degree work at Ohio.
