Washington and Lee senior football standout Jack Boyd was named the state's Small College Lineman of the Year at the Touchdown Club of Richmond's 35th annual awards banquet last night at NationsBank Villa Center. Boyd shared the honor with Emory & Henry's Jamie Harless.
Boyd was a first team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference selection at defensive end this season after making 57 tackles and leading the Generals with 15 tackles for loss, including 3.5 quarterback sacks. Boyd also earned All-ODAC recognition following his junior season when he had a team-high six sacks.
A tri-captain for the Generals, Boyd was also a two-time GTE Academic All-District selection and earned all-state recognition from the Roanoke Times and the Virginia Sports Information Directors this season.
A native of Richmond, Boyd was a two-time all-league and all-state selection in high school at St. Christopher's. Boyd is the second W&L player to be honored by the Touchdown Club in the last three seasons as Robert Hull won the same award following the 1995 season.
