FRIBUSH EARNS BID TO NCAA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
LEXINGTON -- Washington and Lee University sophomore Jared Fribush (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) has been invited to participate in the 1998 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving championships. The championships will be held from March 19-21 at the St. Peter's Rec Plex in St. Louis, Mo., and Fribush's selection marks the 24th consecutive year a W&L swimmer will participate in the NCAA championships.
Fribush swam his provisional qualifying time for the NCAA's at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Invitational at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee in late February. Fribush swam a time of 21.15 in the 50 yard freestyle. He will compete in the 50, 100 and 200 yard freestyle events at the NCAA championships.
Teammate Colin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) also swam a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:55.99 in the 200 yard butterly, but missed out on qualifying for the NCAA's by seven tenths of a second. In women's swimming, junior Margaret Hoehl (Tullahoma, Tenn./Tullahoma) swam a provisional qualifying time of 17:55.48 in the 1,650 yard freestyle, but also was not selected for the NCAA meet.
