Wesleyan, 7:30 Saturday, February 7 - at Eastern Mennonite, 4:00 RECENT SCORES Jan. 28 - Hampden-Sydney 68, W&L 61 Jan. 31 - Guilford 58, W&L 55 KEY WEEK AHEAD It's crunch time in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the Generals head to the highways for three ODAC tilts on the road this week. W&L is currently in sixth place in the league standings with a 5-5 record and all but Hampden-Sydney and Eastern Mennonite have at least five losses. W&L opens the week at Bridgewater (9th, 3-9) on Monday then plays at Virginia Wesleyan (2nd, 8-5) on Wednesday and finishes at Eastern Mennonite (4th, 6-4) on Saturday. GENERALS SUFFER TWO SINGLE-DIGIT LOSSES The Generals were competitive last week, but suffered two single-digit losses. On Wednesday, W&L fell behind to league-leading Hampden-Sydney by 18 points early in the second half, but did cut the gap to five points late in the game before losing 68-61. On Saturday, W&L led most of the way against Guilford before the Quakers rallied late for a 58-55 win. W&L, which had a three-point attempt bounce off the rim as time expired, made just 9-of-20 free throw attempts against the Quakers. BIG RICH PILING UP THE NUMBERS Sophomore center Rich Peterson continues to lead the Generals following another strong week of play. Peterson had 19 points, a career-high tying 11 rebounds and three blocked shots against Hampden-Sydney and followed that up with 15 points and 10 rebounds against Guilford. Peterson is now averaging 13.3 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting 60.6 percent from the floor. HOT SHOT Freshman guard Will Ballard is developing into one of W&L's top offensive threats and also leads the team with 34 steals. In the nine games since the start of the New Year, Ballard has averaged 8.7 points per game while shooting 59.6 percent from the floor, including 53.3 percent from three point range. ODDS & ENDS W&L has just one more home game - February 9 against Randolph-Macon - when students will be on campus...the Generals host Bridgewater and Eastern Mennonite during the week of February 16 when the school is out for Washington Break...W&L senior Kelly Dyer now has 742 career points, tied with Louis Paterno (1961-64) for 33rd on the school's all-time list...within reach this week are Craig Hatfield (1987-91) with 746, Bryan Watkins (1989-93) with 751 and Jim Casey (1987-91) with 768...W&L has completed its season series' with Hampden-Sydney, Emory & Henry and Guilford, but has yet to play Bridgewater or Eastern Mennonite.

Wesleyan, 7:00 Saturday - Lynchburg, 2:00 RECENT SCORES Jan. 29 - RMWC 53, W&L 42 Jan. 31 - Guilford 77, W&L 59 W&L FACES CRITICAL ODAC STRETCH Washington and Lee faces another three-game week and the Generals will go a long way towards determining their ODAC Tournament fate in the stretch. W&L is currently in seventh place in the league standings with a 5-9 record and all three games this week are against teams with which it is competing for one of the eight tourney spots. Emory & Henry is in eighth place with a 4-8 record, Virginia Wesleyan is in fifth place with a 7-6 record and Lynchburg is in ninth place with a 3-8 mark. W&L beat E&H and Lynchburg in the first meetings and lost to Virginia Wesleyan in overtime. LOOK OUT FOR LEAH Freshman center Leah Sawyer has been red hot for the Generals. Sawyer had nine points and 13 rebounds in a 53-42 loss at Randolph-Macon Woman's College on Thursday and then had 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 77-59 loss to Guilford on Saturday. In W&L's first 14 games this season Sawyer had 46 points and 43 rebounds, but in just the last three games she has accounted for 40 points and 31 rebounds. HINKLE TAKES OVER REBOUNDING CHORES W&L continues to be one of the best rebounding teams in the ODAC, outrebounding its foes by 4.5 caroms per contest. Senior Tonia Dean leads the team with an average of 11.1 rebounds per game, but junior Amber Hinkle was dominant on the boards last week. Hinkle had 37 rebounds in the three games last week and is now averaging 7.5 per contest. Hinkle had a career-high 15 boards against RMWC. BEST IN THE NATION W&L's women's basketball team leads NCAA Division III in free throw percentage this winter, making the charity tosses at a 75.0% clip. W&L has made 288 of 384 free throws, while its opponents have taken only 246 free throws. Sophomore guard Ansley Miller leads the team with an 82.6 percentage and is averaging over five points per game from the free throw line alone. ODDS & ENDS Ansley Miller leads the team in scoring with an average of 15.2 points per game while Chrissy Burghardt (12.1) and Amber Hinkle (11.5) are both averaging in double figures...W&L has had at least one player reach double figure rebounds in 16 of its 17 games...Ansley Miller has 23 steals in the last six games and now leads the team with 35 for the season...Miller led the team with 45 last year...W&L has six ODAC games in the next 12 days before ending the regular season at Mary Baldwin.
