The 1998 Division III lacrosse All-America teams have been announced and Washington and Lee has had four players honored. On the women's side, senior Whitney Parker was named to the first team on the IWLCA/Brine squad and on the men's side, seniors Ed Dougherty and Robb Greenfield were named to the third team on the USILA squad and sophomore Colin Dougherty was an honorable mention selection.
Parker was a second team All-America selection last year and moved up to the first team on defense this year after a season in which she set career-highs for goals (38), assists (7) and points (45). Parker was a four-year starter who earned All-ODAC and All-South Atlantic honors three years in her career. She was a tri-captain for this year's team which went 13-3, won the ODAC and advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament.
Ed Dougherty and Robb Greenfield were named to the third team as midfielders. Dougherty, an honorable mention All-America selection last year, tied for the team lead with 32 goals, including the game-winner in overtime against archrival Roanoke College. Greenfield, a longstick midfielder, was the top defensive player on a team that allowed just 7.6 goals per game and he also scored seven points on three goals and four assists.
Colin Dougherty was named to the honorable mention team on attack. He led the team with 57 points on 30 goals and 27 assists and reached 100 career points faster than any player in school history. Dougherty becomes the first sophomore to earn All-America honors at W&L since John Ware in 1987.
W&L's men's lacrosse team finished the season with a record of 13-3 and reached the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
