W&L has won the regular season two straight years

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference volleyball coaches have picked Washington and Lee as the team to beat this fall. W&L was selected first in the preseason coaches poll released on Tuesday.

The Generals won the ODAC regular season title for the second straight year last season, but were beaten by Bridgewater in the championship game of the ODAC Tournament. The Generals return five starters from last season's 29-4 team, led by three-time All-ODAC honoree Hilary Martin who enters her senior season with 848 career kills, just 16 away from tying the school record.

Also back is senior setter Alison Beard, a second team All-ODAC selection in 1996 when she had a school record 847 assists. Other returning starters for W&L are senior outside hitter Holly Thomsen, junior outside hitter Megan Snodgrass and sophmore outside hitter Nancy Reinhart.
