LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team is tied for No. 1 in Division III in the lastest STX/USILA Division III National Coaches' Poll.
The Generals received six-of-10 first place votes, but are tied with Gettysburg College (two first place votes) for the top spot. W&L (11-1) won at Gettysburg (11-2) earlier this season, 6-4.
The No. 1 ranking is the first by a W&L men's lacrosse team since the 1987 season, the Generals' first in Division III after dropping from Division I.
W&L has won each of its last 10 games, the longest such streak in Division III. The Generals have already secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament field by defeating Hampden-Sydney, 9-6, on Saturday afternoon. The win clinched the ODAC Championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament that accompanies it.
