STAMFORD, Conn. -- The College Division GTE Academic All-America At-Large Teams were released on Tuesday morning. Washington and Lee senior swimmer James Browne (Toronto, Ont./Univ. of Toronto) was honored with a selection to the second team.

Browne earned the accolades after an outstanding year in both the pool and the classroom. He carries a 4.0 GPA as a chemistry major and has captained the swim team for two years. Browne was an honorable mention CSCAA Academic All-American last year after helping tie the school-record in the 200-freestyle relay. A three-time ODAC and W&L student-athlete honoree, he also ranks ninth in W&L school-history in the 100 butterfly (54.23).

A two-time honoree at the All-District level, Browne was selected from a pool of athletes from across the nation in 10 varsity sports. He was the only student-athlete from the state of Virginia to be honored on either the first, second, or third teams.

Browne is W&L's second GTE Academic All-American this season. Senior volleyball player Nancy Reinhart (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) was honored with a second-team selection during the fall.
