Senior Women's Lacrosse Players Recognized for Academic Exploits

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee senior women's lacrosse players Ginny Jernigan (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) and Ansley Miller (Athens, Ga./Athens Academy) were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Squad.

Jernigan and Miller were among 165 Division I, II, and III players who fit the criteria for the award which consists of possessing at least a 3.2 grade-point average and having been either a starter or important reserve on the team.

Jernigan started all 13 games in goal for the Generals, posting a .595 save percentage and 7.73 goals-against average. For her career, Jernigan posted 505 saves, second all-time at W&L. Her .607 career save percentage is also second all-time. She earned Second Team All-ODAC honors following the 1998 season after registering a school-record 210 saves.

Miller played in 12 games as a defender, starting eight. She posted a pair of assists and tied for second on the team with 41 ground balls. The three-sport athlete (lacrosse, basketball, and soccer) ended her basketball career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,165 points.
