W&L VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO TRINITY, 3-0, IN NCAA TOURNAMENT ATLANTA, Ga. -- The fourth-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 30-17, 30-22, 30-18 loss to top-seeded Trinity (Texas) University in the NCAA Division III Volleyball South Regional Semifinals on Friday evening at Emory University. Sophomore outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) led the Generals with 13 kills and 10 digs. Her 13 kills give her a total of 475 for the season, breaking the W&L single-season record set by Lindsay Ruckert in 2001. Sophomore outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll)
collected five kills and 11 digs while freshman setter Christine Gladysz
(Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) added 27 assists and eight digs. Trinity (34-4) was led by Shawn McLaughlin, who had 14 kills and nine digs. Brianna Iversen finished with seven kills and 17 digs. W&L VOLLEYBALL WINS NCAA TOURNAMENT OPENER
ATLANTA, Ga. -- Fourth-seeded Washington and Lee defeated fifth-seeded
Christopher Newport, 30-19, 30-27, 28-30, 30-20 in the opening round of
the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament on Thursday evening at Emory
University. The Generals (32-7) advance to the South Region semifinal where they
will face top-seeded Trinity (Texas) University on Friday at 4:30 pm. Leading the way for W&L was sophomore outside hitter Emily Wolfing
(Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll), who totaled team-highs in kills (15) and
digs (20). Sophomore outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier
Prep) notched 12 kills and 14 digs, while freshman setter Christine Gladysz
(Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) tallied a team-high 34 assists and four
aces. The loss ended Christopher Newports season at 24-8 overall. The
Captains had defeated W&L, 3-2, in the teams two prior meetings

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The top-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team
won its second straight ODAC Championship and its fifth in the last six
years with 3-0 wins over Randolph-Macon and Bridgewater. In a 30-28, 30-28, 30-21 semifinal victory over fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon
(18-12), freshman middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud)
led the way with 13 kills and five digs. Freshman middle blocker Taylor
Gibson (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) notched 11 kills and three blocks,

TOURNAMENT HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The top-seeded Washington and Lee volleyball team
began the defense of its 2001 ODAC Championship with a 30-13, 30-17, 30-14
win over eighth-seeded Lynchburg in the opening round of the ODAC Tournament
on Friday evening at Eastern Mennonite. The Generals (29-7) were led by sophomore outside hitter Michelle Chastain
(Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep), who tallied 13 kills, 14 digs and four aces.
Sophomore outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) notched
14 kills and nine digs, while freshman middle blocker Taylor Gibson (San
Diego, Calif./Point Loma) recorded 12 kills and four blocks. Freshman

and nine digs. The loss ended Lynchburgs season at 15-16 overall. The Generals defeated Roanoke, 30-19, 30-15, 30-16 then came back to defeat
Maryville, 30-25, 30-14, 30-24. In the win over Roanoke, sophomore outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix,
Ariz./Xavier Prep) led the way with 12 kills, eight digs and two blocks.

TOURNAMENT DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team swept its competition
in the second day of the Centre Tournament by defeating Transylvania University,
30-26, 30-25, 30-10 and then knocking off Rhodes College, 29-31, 30-28,
38-36, 20-30, 16-14. The Generals finished the tournament with a 4-0 record. In the win over Transylvania, freshman middle blocker Taylor Gibson (San
Diego, Calif./Point Loma) led the way with 13 kills. Sophomore outside
hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) tallied 11 kills,
while fellow class and position-mate Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South
Carroll) notched seven kills and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Jennifer Lux
(Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) amassed 38 assists and 10 digs. Wolfing paced the Generals against Rhodes, registering career-highs in
kills (19) and digs (31). The 31 digs tied the school record held by Megan
Snodgrass since the 1998 season. Chastain supported Wolfings effort with a career-high 18 kills
and 16 digs, while freshman middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston,
S.C./Porter-Gaud) totaled 11 kills and seven blocks. Senior outside hitter
Stacey Kimmel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) played her way to all-tournament
team honors with eight kills and 15 digs. Lux added 58 assists and 10
digs. With the wins, W&L upped its record to 8-1 overall. The Generals

Saturday afternoon. In the win over Averett (5-5), the Generals were led by sophomore outside
hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep), who recorded a
career-high 17 kills. Freshman middle blocker Taylor Gibson (San Diego,

the nightcap. In game one, the Generals were paced by sophomore outside hitter Michelle
Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep), who tied a school record with nine
