W&L VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO EMORY, 3-0
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team saw its
season end with a 30-27, 30-25, 30-27 loss to Emory University in the
NCAA Division III Tournament at Trinity University. The Generals held late leads in all three games, but could not hold on
for the win. Junior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South
Carroll) led the way with 11 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore middle
blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) registered 10 kills.
Junior outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) notched
eight kills and five digs and sophomore setter Christine Gladysz (Palm
Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) added 34 assists and seven digs. Katrina Damasco paced Emory with 15 kills. Jolene Litzman recorded 11
kills, while Remley Dodge added 45 assists. The loss ended W&Ls campaign with a 35-4 overall record. Emory
improved to 30-12 and will play the winner of the Trinity-East Texas Baptist
match on Saturday at 7:00 pm. -- GENERALS -- W&L VOLLEYBALL WINS NCAA TOURNAMENT OPENER SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team won its
opener in the 2003 NCAA Division III Tournament by defeating Averett,
25-30, 30-18, 30-17, 30-21, on Thursday evening at Trinity University. The Generals (35-3) were led by junior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt.
Airy, Md./South Carroll), who totaled a match-high 19 kills and 13 digs.
Junior outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) tallied
18 kills and 18 digs, while sophomore middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston,
S.C./Porter-Gaud) registered 16 kills. Sophomore right side Laura Byrne
(Springfield, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) added nine kills, 11 digs and
five service aces. Sophomore setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley
Prep) amassed a career-high 65 assists and 12 digs. Averett (31-10) was paced by Courtney Carrington, who totaled 12 kills
and seven digs. Jeri Hughes added 18 digs. W&L will take on Emory University (29-12) in the round of 32 on Friday
evening at 5:00 pm CST. The Generals and Eagles have met twice this season,
with each team taking one match. W&L defeated Emory by a 3-0 count

downed Centre, 27-30, 30-28, 30-17, 33-31. Against the Wasps (13-12), W&L was paced by freshman outside hitter
Ashley Hurt (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Trinity Prep), who recorded 13 kills
and 11 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud)
totaled 13 kills as well, while junior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt.

Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) amassed 54 assists
and 16 digs to set a new W&L record for career assists. In the win over Centre, the Generals were led by Wolfing, who totaled
21 kills, 13 digs and six blocks. Junior outside hitter Michelle Chastain
(Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) tallied 16 kills, 21 digs and four blocks,
while Gaillard registered 13 kills and four blocks. Gladysz recorded 60
assists, 14 digs and three blocks. Her career assist total now stands
at 2,258, breaking the record of 2,192 held by Ali Beard since the 1997
season. The Generals (31-3) will be in action again on Friday in the opening
round of the ODAC Tournament hosted by Randolph-Macon. W&L, the top
seed, will face a yet to be determined opponent. -- GENERALS -- W&L VOLLEYBALL WINS TWO AT MARYVILLE INVITATIONAL MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team upped its
record to 29-3 overall with a pair of wins in the opening day of the Maryville
Invitational on Friday. The Generals downed Milligan, 30-15, 30-15, 30-17,
before taking down host Maryville, 30-24, 25-30, 30-26, 30-28. In the win over Milligan (9-24), the Generals were led by sophomore middle

assists, 17 digs and three aces. The win over Maryville avenged an earlier 3-2 loss by the Generals to
the Fighting Scots. With her 94 assists on Friday, Gladysz climbed to within 49 assists
of breaking the W&L career assist record (2,192) held by Ali Beard
since the 1997 season. W&L will continue action in the Maryville Invitational on Saturday
as it takes on Emory & Henry at 10:00 am and Centre at 12:30 pm. -- GENERALS -- W&L VOLLEYBALL FINISHES ODAC REGULAR SEASON UNBEATEN LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated Lynchburg,
30-24, 30-15, 30-15 on Tuesday evening at the Warner Center to finish
the ODAC regular season schedule undefeated for the third straight season. The Generals are now 27-3 overall, 11-0 in the ODAC and will be the top
seed for the ODAC Tournament held Nov. 7-8 at Randolph-Macon College. In the win over LC (14-10, 7-4), W&L was paced by junior outside
hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep), who totaled 12
kills and nine digs. She now claims 1,010 career kills and is the fourth
W&L volleyball player to eclipse the 1,000 career kills mark. Sophomore setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep)
notched 45 assists and eight digs in the match and surpassed the W&L
record for season assists (1,186) set by junior Jennifer Lux (Virginia
Beach, Va./Cox) during the 2001 season. Gladysz now claims 1,209 assists
on the season and can break the W&L career record with 143 more assists.
Her career total stands at 2,050. Junior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) recorded
19 kills and nine digs, while sophomore middle blocker Susan Gaillard

Marymount Tournament on Saturday. The Generals fell to Susquehanna, 3-1,
in the opening match, then rebounded to defeat Averett and Emory &
Henry, 3-0. The Generals (23-3) dropped the decision to Susquehanna with game scores

team improved to 6-0 overall, 2-0 in the ODAC with a 30-18, 30-19, 30-21
win over Emory & Henry on Thursday evening at the Warner Center. The

SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball
team won its ODAC-opener on Tuesday evening, defeating Sweet Briar, 30-16,
30-19, 30-21. The win marked W&Ls 21st straight regular season
ODAC victory. Junior outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep)
led the way with 11 kills and seven digs, while junior outside hitter
Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) recorded eight kills and eight
digs. Sophomore outside hitter Ashleigh Overly (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga
Valley) added nine kills and sophomore setter Christine Gladysz (Palm
Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) notched 18 assists. The loss dropped the Vixens to 0-6 overall, 0-1 in the ODAC. Washington and Lee (5-0, 1-0) returns to action on Thursday as it hosts

INVITATIONAL; DOWNS EMORY IN CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball
team won all three games against Emory to seal the W&L Tournament
championship on Saturday. The Generals (4-0) downed Savannah College of
Art & Design, 26-30, 30-28, 30-28, 30-25, and defeated Emory in the
title match, 30-21, 30-27 and 42-40. W&L VOLLEYBALL WINS TWO MATCHES IN DAY ONE OF THE
W&L INVITATIONAL LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team opened its 2003
season with a pair of wins in the opening day of the 13th Annual Washington
and Lee Invitational on Friday evening at the Warner Center. The Generals
(2-0) defeated Averett, 30-26, 30-15, 30-20, and Shenandoah, 30-21, 30-18,
30-21. In the win over Averett (7-3), junior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt.
Airy, Md./South Carroll) led the way with 10 kills and 17 digs, while
junior outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) totaled
12 kills. Sophomore setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley
Prep) amassed 43 assists and junior libero Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach,
Va./Cox) recorded 17 digs. Against Shenandoah (2-7), Wolfing again led the way with 12 kills and
seven digs. Sophomore middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud)
and sophomore outside hitter Ashleigh Overly (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga
Valley) each added nine kills, while Gladysz registered 33 assists and
10 digs. Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it takes on Savannah
