MENTZ HAS MAGNIFICENT WEEK AS GENERALS SPLIT TWO GAMES
Freshman center Jessica Mentz led the Generals in scoring against Eastern
Mennonite (14 points) and Roanoke (19 points - career high) last week.
Against EMU, the Generals snapped a five-game losing streak with a 71-41
victory. Against Roanoke, the Generals had a 34-31 lead against the
arch-rival Maroons, but let it slip away, falling 71-56. Mentz added 10
rebounds against Roanoke to record a double-double. She shot 12-18
(66.7%)from the floor for the week. Freshman guard Carter Thomas came
within one assist of a school record for assists in a game against EMU
with nine. Freshman forward Megan Babst recorded her first career
double-double against Roanoke with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
BUSY CONFERENCE WEEK
For the first time this season, W&L will face a week loaded with three
conference opponents, playing all three games in the span of five days.
On Tuesday, the Generals will travel to Lynchburg College. The Hornets
are currently 3-7 on the season and are led by Johanna Peeters, who is
averaging 16.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The Generals swept the
Hornets in their two meetings last season. On Thursday night, W&L will
play host to 1-6 Hollins. HU is paced by Rosee Hopkins, who is averaging
17.2 points per game. The Generals took both meetings last season. W&L
winds up the week on Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Va., against
conference-leading Randolph-Macon. The Yellow Jackets have won seven
straight games (8-2) and are 7-0 in the ODAC. These two teams met on
Dec. 1 at the Warner Center, with the Yellow Jackets coming out
victorious, 65-59. R-MC is led by Aimee Beightol (18.0 ppg, 4.6 apg) and
Renee Zando (17.9 ppg, 11.7 rpg).
