GENERALS RALLY FOR BERRY EXCITING WIN AT GUILFORD
Freshman Berry LowdenUs layup with 28 seconds remaining gave W&L a 65-63
win, completing an 18-point comeback at Guilford on Saturday afternoon.
The win was the GeneralsU first in their ten game rivalry with the
Quakers and snapped a four-game Guilford winning streak. Freshman guard
Alison Kudlacik led the second half charge with 15 points in the second
stanza, leading to her career high 21. Freshman center Jessica Mentz had
16 points of her own.
MARLINS, HORNETS, WASPS AWAIT THIS WEEK
The Generals will look to continue their winning ways this week with
three conference match-ups. On Tuesday at the Warner Center, W&L
welcomes Virginia Wesleyan, who sits in third place upon the ODAC
standings with an 8-3 conference record. The Blue Marlins won the
first meeting, 85-75 in Norfolk. On Tuesday evening, the Generals
welcome Lynchburg to the Warner Center. The Hornets are currently 3-8
in the ODAC. The Generals won at Lynchburg, 78-62 on Jan. 12. W&L
rounds out the week with a trip to Emory and Henry for its first
meeting of the season with the Wasps. Emory and Henry is tied with the
Generals for sixth place in the conference with a 4-6 ODAC record.
THE FUTURE'S SO BRIGHT, W&L FRESHMAN GOTTA WEAR SHADES
W&LUs comeback on Saturday was keyed by a group of fabulous freshman.
Four of the five Generals on the court at the end of the game were
first-year players. Freshman center Jessica Mentz leads the team with a
12.7 points per game average and 55.8 field goal percentage. Freshman
Alison Kudlacik is now averaging 8.6 points per game, bolstered by a
7-for-11 performance at Guilford on Saturday. Freshman guard Carter
Thomas is also making a valuable contribution, leading the team with 2.0
steals per game.
