Sophomore forward Emily Barker's career-high 21 points paced the Generals

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Guilford opened up a 24-5 first-half lead and knocked off Washington and Lee, 68-50, in ODAC women’s basketball action on Saturday at the Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse.

A three-pointer by freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) gave the Generals their only lead of the game at 3-0. The Quakers immediately responded with a 24-2 run to go ahead 24-5 with 8:51 remaining in the first half and cruised to the victory.

The Quakers, who shot 43.4 percent (23-for-53) from the field for the game, limited the Generals to 39.1 percent (18-of-46) shooting and forced them into 19 turnovers.

Pacing Guilford, which won its school-record 25th consecutive home game, were the trio of junior forwards Jackie Hardenbergh, Jennie Keichline and A.J. Robertson. Hardenbergh finished with 17 points and nine boards, while Keichline added 16 points and Robertson 12.

Sophomore forward Emily Barker’s (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) career-high 21 points, along with eight boards and three blocks, led the Generals. Sophomore point guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) chipped in with a career-high-tying 14 points.

With the loss, W&L wraps up its season with a 3-21 mark overall, 3-17 ODAC.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO BRIDGEWATER, 57-40

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Bridgewater used 54.2 percent shooting in the second half to sink Washington and Lee, 57-40, in ODAC women’s basketball action on Wednesday evening at Nininger Hall.

The Generals (3-20, 3-16) led 17-16 with 3:57 remaining in the first half, but the Eagles used an 11-0 run over the end of the first half and opening 2:04 of the second half to assume a 27-17 lead in cruising to the win.

W&L was led by freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) and sophomore forward Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon), who each tallied 10 points. Junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) added eight points and nine rebounds. Sophomore point guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./Enloe) notched four assists to set a new W&L record for career assists surpassing the total of 228 set by Jessica Morton ‘00. Dannelly’s total now stands at 232.

Bridgewater (10-14, 8-11) was led by Megan Forster, who totaled 13 points and six rebounds. Lindsay Andrews added 12 points in the winning effort.

Washington and Lee will complete its season on Saturday as it travels to Guilford for a 2:00 pm contest.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS AT MARY WASHINGTON, 65-49

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women’s basketball team was unable to overcome its 24 turnovers and fell, 65-49, to Mary Washington in non-conference action on Monday evening in Fredericksburg, Va.

The Generals, who dropped to 3-19 overall, shot a season-best 45.5 percent (20-of-44) from the field, but were done in by their -13 turnover margin (24-11).

Mary Washington (8-14) established a 31-24 halftime lead, but saw the gap cut to one (35-34) with 15:07 to play. The Generals stayed within striking distance, trailing by five (44-39) with 6:28 remaining, but the Eagles converted 13-of-14 second half free throws for the win.

W&L sophomore point guard Bethany Dannelly’s (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) five assists moved her into a tie with Jessica Morton ‘00 for first in program history in career assists (228). She also collected a game-high eight boards.

Freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) and junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) keyed the Generals’ offense, tallying 21 and 18 points respectively.

The Eagles were led by senior guard Caitlin Wilkinson and junior center Adrienne Barnes. Wilkinson finished with 20 points, six boards and four assists, while Barnes had 13 points, all of which came in the second half.

The Generals finish their season series at Bridgewater on Wednesday with a 7:00 pm game.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DOWNED AT LYNCHBURG, 63-37

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women’s basketball team connected on just 21.4 percent of its shots (12-of-56) and was defeated, 63-37, by Lynchburg on Wednesday evening in Lynchburg, Va.

The Hornets (13-8, 11-5 ODAC) used a 9-2 run over the final 2:34 of the first half to take a 26-16 lead at halftime. They then outscored W&L 37-21 in the second half to cruise to the victory.

LC was led by senior center Erika Whitten’s game-high 19 points and three blocks. Junior guard Abby Pyzik notched 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) led the W&L (3-18, 3-15 ODAC) offense with 18 points, including 4-of-6 shooting from downtown. Her four threes give her 30 on the season, eclipsing the previous W&L single-season mark of 29 which was established by junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) in the 2000-01 season.

The Generals will be in action again on Monday when they travel to Mary Washington for a non-conference game with a scheduled tip-off time of 7:00 pm.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CLIPPED BY E&H, 55-48

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Emory & Henry withstood a late-game charge by Washington and Lee and pulled out a 55-48 win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference women’s basketball action on Tuesday evening at the Warner Center.

The Wasps (15-6, 13-3) opened up a game-high 11-point lead (39-28) with 10:15 to play. However, sophomore point guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) keyed an 8-0 W&L run with two jumpers that cut the Wasps’ advantage to 39-36 with 7:51 left in the game.

Three points was the closest the Generals would come, though, as the Wasps connected on 9-of-10 free throws to close out the game.

Junior guard Dawn Chewning (Roanoke, Va./William Byrd) scored a team-high 14 points to lead E&H. Junior forward Erin Connelly (Morganton, N.C./Freedom) complimented her with 11 points and eight boards.

Leading the way for the Generals (3-17, 3-14) was junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy), whose 15 points were a game-high. Dannelly added a career-high-tying 14 points along with a career-best nine rebounds.

W&L gets back on the floor again tomorrow evening when it travels to Lynchburg for a 7:00 pm contest.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO SHENANDOAH, 63-35

WINCHESTER, Va. -- Shenandoah University used an 11-0 run to start the game in cruising to a 63-35 win over Washington and Lee in women’s basketball on Sunday afternoon in Winchester, Va.

The Hornets hammered the Generals (3-16) on the boards, claiming a 37-25 edge and forced 21 W&L turnovers.
Sophomore forward Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) led W&L with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) added nine points.

Shenandoah (10-8) was paced by Jenny Gray’s 14 points and six rebounds. Dee Fisher chipped in with 12 points and seven boards.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts Emory & Henry for a 7:00 pm contest.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL EDGED BY GUILFORD, 55-50

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior forward A.J. Robertson (Eden, N.C./Morehead) drilled a three-pointer from the left wing with 19 seconds remaining to break a 50-50 tie and propel the Guilford women’s basketball team to a 55-50 win over Washington and Lee on Friday evening at the Warner Center.

The Quakers (14-5, 11-3 ODAC) bumped their 19-17 halftime lead to 41-35 on a lay-in by junior forward Jennie Keichline (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) with 7:15 to play in the game. However, the Generals responded by ripping off the next 12 points to assume a 47-41 lead with 4:27 remaining. Included in the run were six points, off a three-point play and a trey, by junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy).

At that point, the Quakers answered by outscoring W&L 14-3 the rest of the way. Twelve of their final 14 points came on three-pointers, including nine from Robertson.

Robertson led Guilford with 17 points on 7-for-15 shooting. Freshman guard Jennifer King (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County) added 16 points and six rebounds and was the only other GC player to reach double figures.

Michaels paced the Generals (3-15, 3-13 ODAC) with a game-high 24 points and five boards. Freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) finished with 12 points, while sophomore guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./Enloe) had 10. Senior center Austin Calhoun (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) grabbed a game- and career-high 12 rebounds.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HOLDS OFF R-MWC, 44-38

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) and freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) each recorded double-doubles to lift the Washington and Lee women’s basketball team to its first home victory of the season, 44-38, over Randolph-Macon Woman’s College on Wednesday evening in the Warner Center. Michaels finished with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Feve had 15 points and grabbed 10 boards.

The Generals (3-14, 3-12 ODAC) overcame their 26.4 percent shooting from the field (14-for-53) by forcing the WildCats (3-14, 1-12 ODAC) into 30 turnovers.

W&L, which opened up a 28-15 lead at the half, allowed R-MWC to get within five (41-36) with 1:21 to play on a layup by freshman forward Meghan Stensrud (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax). However, the WildCats failed to threaten the rest of the way as the Generals converted their free throws down the stretch.

Michaels’ double-double was her second of the season, while Feve’s represented the first of her career as well as a career-high in rebounds. No other W&L player scored more than four points.

The WildCats were paced by sophomore forward Amanda Workman’s (Renick, W.Va./Greenbrier) 11 points. Freshman guard Becky Johnsen (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) added nine points, while Stensrud finished with seven.

The Generals take the floor again on Friday evening when they host Guilford at 7:00 pm in the first matchup between the two teams this season.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS 67-49 DECISION TO ROANOKE

SALEM, Va. -- Freshman guard Veronica Kelly’s 17 points paced four players in double-digits as Roanoke defeated Washington and Lee, 67-49, in ODAC women’s basketball action on Friday evening at the Bast Center.

Kelly tallied nine of her points in the first half as the Maroons (11-6, 9-5) held a slim 25-22 halftime advantage. Roanoke then began the second half with a 20-0 run over the first 8:48 to assume a commanding 45-20 lead in cruising to the win.

Senior guard Katrina Williams notched 15 points, while sophomore forwards Jennie Schafer and Kayce Smith added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Washington and Lee (2-14, 2-12) was led by junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy), who scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./Enloe) tied a career-high with 14 points.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DOWNED, 61-46, BY EASTERN MENNONITE

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women’s basketball team was outscored, 15-6, over the final 4:06 of the game and dropped a 61-46 decision to Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday evening in the Warner Center.

Sophomore point guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) drilled a jumper to cut the Royals’ (13-4, 8-4 ODAC) lead to six (46-40) with 4:06 to play. Then, with the Royals up 50-42 with 2:50 remaining, senior guard Emily Mullet (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) drilled a trey to make it 53-42, and the Royals cruised from that point.

Both teams turned the ball over 17 times, and the Royals held a slim 37-36 advantage on the boards, but the Generals (2-13, 2-11 ODAC) were unable to overcome their 27.3 percent shooting from the field (15-of-55).

Freshman guard Stephanie Mathews (Woodstock, Va./Central) led three EMU players in double figures with a game-high 18 points. She also added seven rebounds and six steals. Freshman center Amanda Renalds (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) finished with 12 points and freshman guard Carrie Grandstaff (Luray, Va./Mt. Carmel Christian) added 11.

Dannelly scored 12 points and grabbed seven boards to lead the Generals. Junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) chipped in with 10 points. Senior center Austin Calhoun (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) nabbed a game- and career-high 11 rebounds.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL STUNG BY EMORY & HENRY, 67-53

EMORY, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women’s basketball team gave up 19 points off of turnovers and fell, 67-53, to Emory & Henry on Saturday afternoon in Emory, Va.

The Wasps (10-5, 8-2 ODAC) converted W&L’s 15 turnovers into 19 points, while allowing the Generals to score just two points off E&H giveaways.

The Wasps entered the break clinging to a 27-26 lead after shooting 9-for-27 (33.3 percent) from the field. Despite connecting on only 12-of-31 second-half shots (38.7 percent), they outscored W&L by 13 (40-27) to pull away for the 14-point win.

Junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) paced W&L (2-12, 2-10 ODAC) and led all scorers with 22 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) chipped in with 13 points, while sophomore forward Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) added 11. Senior center Austin Calhoun (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) grabbed a game-high eight boards.

The Wasps placed three players in double figures, headed by Danielle Moore who finished with 16 points. Amy Hensley tallied 15 points and Erin Connelly totaled 13.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TOPPLED BY HOLLINS, 52-44

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women’s basketball team was unable to overcome its 29.6 percent shooting from the field (16-for-54) in falling, 52-44, to Hollins on Friday evening at the Warner Center.

Hollins went into the half carrying a 19-13 lead after the two teams combined to shoot 13-of-44 (.296) from the field and commit 29 turnovers.

Hollins (7-6, 4-6 ODAC) used a 17-7 run at the beginning of the second half to open up a 36-20 lead with 11:03 left to play. However, the Generals (2-11, 2-9 ODAC) hung tight and cut the lead to five (47-42) on a three-pointer by junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) with 1:04 remaining. But, that was as close as the score would get as the Generals managed only one more basket while Hollins made five free throws down the stretch.

Sophomore center Katie Parnell (Lynchburg, Va./Holy Cross) led three HU players in double figures with a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds. Senior guard Emily Ferrell (Roanoke, Va./Northside) added 13 points, while sophomore guard Brandi Cochran (Hillsville, Va./Carroll County) tallied 10.

Michaels paced W&L with 13 points, including 3-for-5 shooting from behind the arc, while senior center Austin Calhoun (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) added eight points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS VIRGINIA WESLEYAN, 56-35

NORFOLK, Va. -- Junior forward Sarah Michaels’ (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) career-high 29 points propelled the Washington and Lee women’s basketball team to a 56-35 victory against Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday evening in Norfolk, Va.

Michaels made 7-of-14 shots from the field, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. She also was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line, and added five rebounds and five steals.

The Generals (2-10, 2-8 ODAC) played their best defense of the season in ending an eight-game losing slide, holding the Marlins to just 35 points on 22.0 percent shooting (11-of-50).

W&L’s win avenged an 80-61 loss to Virginia Wesleyan on Jan. 10.

Freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) chipped in with nine points and four assists. Senior center Austin Calhoun (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) nabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

The Marlins (4-7, 3-6 ODAC) were paced by Cherie Cannady and Brandi Coffer, who each finished with seven points.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO RANDOLPH-MACON, 67-53

ASHLAND, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women’s basketball team shot just 31.8 percent (14-for-44) for the game and fell, 67-53, to Randolph-Macon on Friday evening in Ashland, Va.

Despite connecting on just 35.0 percent of their first half offerings, the Generals (1-10, 1-8 ODAC) trailed by only five points at the half (31-26). The Yellow Jackets (7-6, 6-4 ODAC), who won for the seventh time in their last eight contests, outscored W&L by nine (36-27) in the second half for the final 14-point cushion.

For the game, W&L committed 21 turnovers, compared to 18 for R-MC.

Freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) led three W&L players in double figures with a game-high 16 points, including 8-of-11 from the free throw line. Junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) scored 14 points and sophomore point guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) added 12 points and five assists.

Megan Silva paced the Yellow Jackets by scoring 16 points, dishing out eight assists and grabbing four rebounds. Emily Crider notched 12 points and five boards in 17 minutes of action.

Washington and Lee continues its road trip tomorrow when it tips off at Virginia Wesleyan at 5:00 pm.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO HOLLINS, 63-48

HOLLINS, Va. -- Sophomore guard Brandi Cochran (Hillsville, Va./Carroll County) scored a game-high 22 points to lead Hollins University past Washington and Lee, 63-48, in ODAC women’s basketball action on Tuesday evening.

Hollins (5-4, 2-4) extended a 28-20 halftime advantage to 36-20 with an 8-0 run to start the second half. The Generals (1-9, 1-7) closed to within 45-38 with 7:39 remaining in the game, but could get no closer.

Freshman guard Coby Wilmer (Buena Vista, Va./Parry McCluer) complimented Cochran’s effort with 17 points, 12 rebounds, six steals and five assists.

W&L was led by freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) and junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy), who each scored 13 points. Sophomore forward Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) added 10 points.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO LYNCHBURG, 62-49

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior center Erika Whitten’s (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) double-double, which consisted of 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, paced the Lynchburg women’s basketball team to a 62-49 win over Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.

W&L (1-8, 1-6 ODAC), which outrebounded the Hornets by six (47-41), was unable to overcome its 16.9 percent shooting from the field (10-for-59).

Whitten also added game-highs in steals (five) and blocks (four) as Lynchburg improved to 9-3 overall, and 7-1 in ODAC-play this season.

Junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) led the Generals in scoring with a game-high 19 points. Freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) added 13 points, while senior forward Elizabeth Igo (Claymont, Del./Archmere Academy) and senior center Austin Calhoun (Alexandria, Va./Albemarle) collected 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL BOWS TO VIRGINIA WESLEYAN, 80-61

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior guard Angie Cavanaugh (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) scored a game-high 26 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including 5-of-8 from three-point land to lead the Virginia Wesleyan women’s basketball team to an 80-61 victory over Washington and Lee on Friday evening at the Warner Center.

W&L (1-7, 1-5 ODAC) trailed 43-38 at the half after connecting on nearly 61 percent of its first-half shots (14-of-23). However, the Generals shot just 28.1 percent (9-for-32) in being outscored by 14 in the second frame.

Cavanaugh, who also had four rebounds, four assists and a game-high nine steals, was one of three Marlins (4-4, 3-3 ODAC) in double figures. Freshman center Nikki Kemp (Cheriton, Va./Norhampton) and junior forward Devin Allen (Machipongo, Va./Northampton) added 17 and 15 points, respectively.

W&L was led freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) who racked up 17 points and junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) who had 16 points and five rebounds. HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Eastern Mennonite surged out to an 11-2 lead in the opening 5:09 and cruised to a 69-47 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC women’s basketball action on Wednesday evening at the EMU Student Commons.

W&L (1-6, 1-4), which shot just 2-of-29 from the floor in the first half, was led by freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill), who tallied 18 points, four rebounds and four assists. Junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) contributed 15 points.

Eastern Mennonite (8-2, 4-2) was paced by Carrie Grandstaff’s 15 points and five rebounds. Amanda Renalds and Stephanie Mathews added 12 points and seven rebounds each.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL KNOCKED OFF BY ROANOKE, 72-30

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Roanoke women’s basketball team used a 14-2 run at the beginning of the second half to cruise to a 72-30 win over Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.

Sophomore forward Jennie Schafer (Centreville, Va./Centreville) converted a layup with 19:20 remaining in the second half to start the run, and then finished it with two free throws to give the Maroons (5-1, 3-0 ODAC) a 44-13 advantage with 15:00 minutes to play.

Schafer finished as the game’s leading scorer with 19 points. She also helped Roanoke outrebound W&L (57-33), as she was one of four players to total seven rebounds.

The Generals, who fell to 1-5 overall, 1-3 in the ODAC, were led by junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) who finished with a team-high 10 points. Senior forward Elizabeth Igo (Claymont, Del./Archmere Academy) corralled a game-high 11 rebounds.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DEFEATED BY RANDOLPH-MACON, 74-59

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Randolph-Macon woman’s basketball team used a 12-5 run over the final 2:46 to hold off Washington and Lee, 74-59, on Thursday evening at the Warner Center.

Junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) converted two free throws to cut the Yellow Jackets’ (2-5, 2-3 ODAC) advantage to 62-54 with less than three minutes to play. However, senior guard Allison King (Cary, N.C./Cary) scored five of her team-high 19 points down the stretch to put the game on ice for R-MC.

Despite shooting just 39.5 percent (27-of-74) from the field for the game, the Yellow Jackets were able to pull out the victory by forcing 25 W&L (1-4, 1-2 ODAC) turnovers and committing just eight.

To go along with her 19 points, King also added a game-high 12 rebounds and three assists. Freshman point guard Megan Silva (Glen Allen, Va./Hermitage) chipped in with 14 points, three assists and six steals.

The Generals were led by freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) who scored a career- and game-high 25 points. She also had nine boards, four assists and three steals. Michaels recorded the first double-double of the season for W&L with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore point guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) notched 11 points, five boards and five assists.

W&L returns to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Roanoke. Tip off is slated for 12:30 pm.

W&L WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO BRIDGEWATER, 60-30

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women’s basketball team was defeated, 60-30, by Bridgewater on Monday evening at the Warner Center.

After a jumper by freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) with 8:41 left in the first half cut the Bridgewater lead to two (14-12), the Eagles (2-2, 1-0 ODAC) outscored the Generals, 18-2, over the remainder of the period to open a 32-14 advantage at the half. Then, in the second stanza, Bridgewater scored 28 points to W&L’s 16 to cruise to the final 60-30 margin.

For the game, the Generals (1-3, 1-1 ODAC) shot 19.6 from the field (10-of-51).

BC was led by junior guard Sarah Oktavec (Pylesville, Md./John Carroll) who recorded game-highs in points (11) and rebounds (8). She also made five steals. Joining Oktavec in double figures were senior guard Megan Forster (Shawsville, Va./Shawsville) and junior center Katie Brennan (Frederick, Md./Frederick), who each tallied 10 points.

Pacing the Generals was junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) who scored nine points and grabbed seven boards. Sophomore guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) accumulated five points, seven rebounds, three assists and five steals.

W&L will be back on the court on Wednesday evening when it hosts Emory & Henry for a 6:30 pm contest.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DEFEATS RMWC, 66-51

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) scored 17 points to lead the Washington and Lee women’s basketball team to a 66-51 win over Randolph-Macon Woman’s College on Tuesday evening in Lynchburg, Va.

The Generals (1-2, 1-0) led 50-46 with 4:57 remaining in the game, but went on a 16-5 run the rest of the way in claiming their first win of the season.

Feve was one of five double-figure scorers for W&L. Junior forward Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) and sophomore guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./Enloe) both scored 12 points, while sophomore forward Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Senior guard Elizabeth Igo (Claymont, Del./Archmere Academy) added 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

Randolph-Macon Woman’s College (1-2, 0-1) was led by freshman Meghan Stenrud’s 19 points and seven rebounds.

Washington and Lee will return to action on Monday as it hosts Bridgewater for a 6:00 pm contest.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO ELMIRA, 74-69, IN OVERTIME

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee women’s basketball team fell to Elmira College, 74-69, in overtime in the consolation game of the Scranton University Diversified Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals (0-2) led 36-29 with 16:24 remaining in the game, but the Soaring Eagles went on a 15-4 run over the next 6:54 to take a 46-40 lead with 9:30 remaining. Elmira held the lead until sophomore guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./Enloe) hit 1-of-2 free throws with three seconds remaining to knot the game at 58-58 and send it into overtime.

In the extra frame, Elmira (1-1) pushed its lead to as many as 10 points on two occasions in claiming its first win of the season.

W&L was led by junior guard Sarah Michaels (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy), who scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethedsa, Md./Winston Churchill) recorded 23 points and five rebounds, while Dannelly scored 13 points and dished out five assists in earning all-tournament honors.

Elmira was paced by Laura Aberhart’s 18 points and four assists and Sarah Nicholson’s 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as it travels to Randolph-Macon Woman’s College for a 7:00 pm contest.

W&L WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO RICHARD STOCKTON, 57-42

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women’s basketball team dropped its season-opener, 57-42, to Richard Stockton in the opening round of the Scranton University Diversified Invitational on Friday evening.

The Generals (0-1) trailed just 27-21 at the half, however, the Ospreys began the second half on a 10-2 run to extend their lead to 37-23 with 15:47 remaining. W&L fought back to cut the RSC lead to eight (44-36) with 5:36 remaining, but could get no closer.

Sophomore guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) led the Generals with 14 points, while freshman guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) tallied 10 points.

Richard Stockton (1-0) was led by senior forward Kelli Bakanowsky who scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Washington and Lee will face Elmira, a 92-46 loser to Scranton, in the consolation game on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
