WARNER CENTER, HOME OF THE GENERALS
Washington and Lee plays its home basketball games in the 2,500-seat J.W. Warner Center, a five-story athletic complex completed in 1972. The first game in the new facility was played before a packed house against the University of Virginia on December 1, 1971 and the building was officially dedicated as the Warner Center on October 21, 1977. The gymnasium has served as the host site for two NCAA regional basketball tournaments and one NCAA regional wrestling tournament.
The athletic complex, named for former W&L trustee Jonathan Westervelt Warner (W&L '40), also features a six-lane swimming pool; team rooms for W&L sports teams; the Doremus Gymnasium; a fully-equipped weight room that was renovated in 1992; an excellent athletic training facility; handball, racquetball and squash courts; a baseball batting cage; an equipment room and offices for coaches and administrators.
