W&L CROSS COUNTRY HAD TWO RUNNERS IN NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. -- The Washington and Lee mens
and womens cross country teams each had one runner compete in
the NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by the University
of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The meet was held at the Whitetail Golf Coursein
Colfax, Wisc. on Saturday afternoon. In the mens race, junior Nathan Johnson (Lexington,
Va./Rockbridge County) finished 83rd out of 215 runners in a personal-best
time of 25:48.60. Johnson qualified for the NCAA Championships by winning
the NCAA South/Southeast Regional at Emory University on Nov. 13. In the womens race, freshman Lindsay Erickson (Silver
Spring, Md./Stone Ridge) crossed the finish line in 84th place out of
215 runners in a time of 23:04.50. Erickson qualified for the NCAA Championships
by placing third at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional. --GENERALS-- W&L CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE AT NCAA SOUTH/SOUTHEAST REGIONAL ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee mens and
womens cross country teams competed at the NCAA South/Southeast
Regional on Saturday afternoon at Emory University. The men finished
sixth out of 20 teams while the women placed ninth out of 21 teams. In the mens meet, junior Nathan Johnson (Lexington,
Va./Rockbridge County) won the race in a time of 26:43.82 to earn all-region
accolades. Freshmen Alex Mahoney (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and Tom
Brower (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) were the second and
third Generals to cross the finish line, respectively. Mahoney finished
21st in a time of 27:41.28 and Brower was 31st in a time of 28:11.20. The women were led by freshman Lindsay Erickson (Silver
Spring, Md./Stone Ridge), who placed third overall in a time of 23:11.67
to garner all-region honors. Juniors Debra Kubas (Colchester, Conn./Bacon
Academy) and Betsy Frayer (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) rounded
out the Generals top three finishers. Kubas crossed the tape in
50th place (25:52.88) with Frayer right behind in 51st place (25:57.70).
Johnson and Erickson will both run at the NCAA National
Championships in Eau Claire, Wisc. on Sat., Nov. 20. The meet begins
at 10:00 am. --GENERALS-- W&L CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS WIN ODAC CHAMPIONSHIP HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens
and womens cross country teams both claimed the ODAC Championship
on Saturday afternoon. The W&L men finished first of eight teams,
while the women were first of seven teams. For the men, junior Nathan Johnson (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) won the race with a time of 28:16.56 en route to ODAC Runner of the Year and ODAC Mens Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. Freshman Alex Mahoney (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier Academy)
finished second overall in a time of 28:25.24, while senior Wes Bell
(Dalton, Ga./McCallie School) placed seventh with a time of 29:38.33.
Freshman Andrew Friski (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) also turned
in an All-ODAC performance by placing ninth overall (29:57.18). On the womens side, freshman Lindsay Erickson (Silver
Spring, Md./Stone Ridge) earned ODAC Runner and Rookie of the Year accolades
by winning the race in a time of 24:42.89. Sophomore Tippins Stone (Nashville,
Tenn./Harpeth Hall) finished second overall (25:58.15), while freshman
Kelley Zwart (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County), junior Betsy Frayer
(Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids), sophomore Jenny Ratzel (Elm
Grove, Wisc./Brookfield East) and sophomore Debra Kubas (Colchester,
Conn./Bacon Academy) all earned All-ODAC honors. Zwart crossed the tape
fourth overall (26:40.81), Frayer finished eighth (27:01.24), Ratzel
placed 10th (27:19.47) and Kubas placed 11th (27:22.31). W&Ls John Tucker and Kris Hoey both took home
the ODAC Coach of the Year award as W&L won both the mens
and womens championship for the first time since 1994. Washington and Lee returns to action on Sat., Nov. 13
as it competes in the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships held
in Atlanta, Ga. -- GENERALS -- W&L CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT GETTYSBURG INVITATIONAL GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee mens and
womens cross country teams were in action on Saturday at the Gettysburg
Invitational. The W&L men placed fourth of 17 teams, while the women
finished sixth of 15 squads. For the men, junior Nathan Johnson (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge
County) led the way, placing fourth of 180 competitors with a season-best
time of 26:49.08. Senior Wes Bell (Dalton, Ga./McCallie School) finished
16th with a time of 27:37.31, while freshman Alex Mahoney (Winnetka,
Ill./New Trier Academy) crossed the line 18th with a time of 27:43.35. Freshman Lindsay Erickson (Silver Spring, Md./Stone Ridge)
again led the W&L women, placing fifth overall out of 177 runners
with a time of 23:14.00. Sophomore Tippins Stone (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth
Hall) finished 28th with a time of 24:28.15, while freshman Kelley Zwart
(Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) placed 33rd with a time of 24:37.21. Washington and Lee returns to action on Sat. Oct. 30 as
it competes at the ODAC Championships held at Peak View Farms in Harrisonburg,
Va. -- GENERALS -- W&L CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT VIRGINIA STATE DIVISION II-III MEET HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens
and womens cross country teams were in action on Saturday at the
Virginia State Division II-III meet hosted by Eastern Mennonite University.
The W&L men finished first of six teams, while the women also finished
first of six teams. For the men, junior Nathan Johnson (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge
County) won the race with a time of 27:32. Senior Steve Chambers (Christiana,
Pa./Octorara Area) finished third of 57 runners with a time of 28:31.13,
while senior Wes Bell (Dalton, Ga./McCallie School) completed the course
in 28:55 to place seventh. On the womens side, freshman Lindsay Erickson (Silver
Spring, Md./Stone Ridge) led the way with a second place finish (24:50),
followed by sophomore Tippins Stone (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall),
who placed third (25:35) out of 69 runners. Junior Betsy Frayer (Grand
Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) also finished in the top 10 with a
sixth place finish in a time of 26:03. Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when
it travels to Pennsylvania to compete at the Gettysburg Invitational.

Invitational at the Dick Miller Cross Country Course. The W&L men
finished first of three teams, while the women placed second of four teams. For the men, junior Nathan Johnson (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County)
won the race with a time of 28:33. Senior Steve Chambers (Christiana,
Pa./Octorara Area) finished third of 37 runners with a time of 29:31,
while junior Andrew Johnson (Blairstown, N.J./Blair Academy) completed
the course in 30:11 to place fourth. On the womens side, sophomore Julie Harris (Richmond, Va./St.
Catherines) led the way with a sixth place finish (27:24) out of 28 runners.
Sophomore Debra Kubas (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) finished eighth
with a time of 27:55, while junior Ashley Brown (Kingwood, W.Va./Preston)
finished ninth with a time of 28:13. Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it competes in the Virginia State Championships in Harrisonburg, Va., at 10:30 am. -- GENERALS -- W&L CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES IN NYU INVITATIONAL NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Washington and Lee mens and
womens cross country teams were in action on Saturday as they competed
in the New York University Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
The W&L men finished second of 28 teams, while the women finished
fifth of 22 teams. Leading the way for the mens team, which was bested
only by Wesleyan University, was junior Nathan Johnson (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge
County) who placed fourth out of 242 runners with a time of 27:15. Freshman
Tom Brower (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) finished 14th with
a time of 27:50, while fellow classmate Alex Mahoney (Winnetka, Ill./New
Trier Academy) crossed the tape in 18th place (27:58). On the womens side, freshman Lindsay Erickson (Silver
Spring, Md./Stone Ridge) was the pace-setter, finishing fifth out of 240
runners with a time of 20:04. Sophomore Tippins Stone (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth
Hall) placed 14th overall (20:44), while junior Betsy Frayer (Grand Rapids,
Mich./East Grand Rapids) finished 23rd with a time of 21:00. Washington and Lee returns to action on Sat. Oct. 2, when
it hosts the Generals Invitational at 10:00 am. -- GENERALS -- W&L CROSS COUNTRY HOSTS W&L INVITATIONAL LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and
womens cross country teams were in action on Saturday as they hosted
the W&L Invitational. The mens squad finished first of six teams,
while the women were second of nine teams. On the mens side, freshman Tom Brower (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian
Brothers Academy) won the race, crossing the tape in 29:17. Brower was
followed by classmate Alex Mahoney (Jarkata, Indonesia/New Trier Academy)
in third place (29:21) and senior Steve Chambers (Christiana, Pa./Octorara
Area) in fourth place (29:49). Freshman Andrew Friski (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge
County) also finished in the Top 10 for the Generals, crossing the finish
line in sixth place with a time of 30:23. For the W&L women, freshmen Lindsay Erickson (Silver
Spring, Md./Stone Ridge) and Kelley Zwart (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County)
finished second and third, respectively. Erickson crossed the line in
21:52, while Zwart finished in 22:25. Sophomore Jenny Ratzel (Elm Grove,
Wisc./Brookfield East) rounded out the Generals top finishers, completing
the course in 23:44. Southern Virginias Kim Anderson won the womens
race, finishing in 21:46. Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels
