VIRGINIA WESLEYAN OUTSCORES ROANOKE, 22-14, IN ODAC
SEMIFINALS
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan senior midfielder Anne
Marie Nash (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) tallied six goals and six assists
to lead the second-seeded Marlins to a 22-14 win over third-seeded Roanoke
in the semifinals of the ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday
afternoon on the campus of Washington and Lee University.
The Marlins (15-2) led just 6-5 with 5:30 remaining in the first half,
but went on a 6-0 run over the next 9:38 to assume a commanding 12-5 lead
with 25:52 remaining. The Maroons (9-6) then fought back to cut the VWC
lead to 12-9 with four unaswered goals over the game's next 5:23, but
the Marlins quickly scored four straight over the next four minutes to
put the game out of reach.
Nash's effort was supplimented by sophomore attacker Laura Wallace (Bridgewater,
N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), who scored six goals, and by junior attacker
Megan Parris (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley), who tallied one goal and
five assists. Senior Margie Baker (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) notched seven
saves in goal.
Roanoke was led by junior attacker Meaghan Cromwell (Alexandria, Va./Mount
Vernon) and freshman attacker Mary Stewart Malone (Fairfax Station, Va./St.
Stephen's & St. Agnes), who totaled two goals and one assist each.
Sophomore Danielle Serratore (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) notched
16 saves in goal.
Viriginia Wesleyan advances to the ODAC Championship game, where it will
meet top-seeded Washington and Lee. Gametime is slated for 2:00 pm.
