ROANOKE DOWNS RANDOLPH-MACON, 14-7, TO REACH ODAC TITLE GAME LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore attacker Steph Calabrese (Darien,
Conn./Darien) totaled six points on four goals and two assists to lead
the third-seeded Roanoke women's lacrosse team to a 14-7 win over second-seeded
Randolph-Macon in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament on Saturday in
Lexington, Va. The Maroons (11-5), who held advantage in shots (35-20)
and ground balls (54-42), jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the 5:18 mark on
goals by Calabrese and junior midfielder Carrie Smith (Charlottesville,
Va./Monticello). After the Yellow Jackets scored two straight goals to
even it at 2-2, Roanoke scored five of the next seven tallies to take
a 7-4 lead at the break. Calabrese started the second half with three unanswered
goals to give the Maroons a commanding 10-4 lead. Randolph-Macon (11-5)
sophomore attacker Kelly Jaeger (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for
Girls) notched a goal at 39:32 to cut it to 10-5, but the Maroons responded
with a 3-0 run and coasted to the 14-7 win. Calabrese's six points were a game-high total. Sophomore
attacker Laura Esty (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) added three goals, while
Smith and sophomore midfielder Emily Hearn (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk)
totaled two apiece. In net, senior Lisa Humphries (Glasgow, Va./Rockbridge
County) made nine saves. The Yellow Jackets were led by Jaeger and senior midfielder
Rachel Baron (Columbia, Md./Glenelg County), who each finished with three
points. Junior goaltender Ashley Seal (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) stopped
13 shots. Roanoke will face No. 1 seed Washington and Lee for the ODAC Championship at the Liberty Hall Fields on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. SCORING: GOALTENDING: |
