RAND.-MACON BEATS VA. WESLEYAN, 18-10, IN ODAC WOMEN'S LACROSSE SEMIFINALS LEXINGTON, Va. Senior attacker Kelly Jaeger (Baltimore,
Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and sophomore attacker Traci Phipps (Annapolis,
Md./Annapolis) each scored five goals to help lead third-seeded Randolph-Macon
to an 18-10 victory over second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan in the semifinals
of the 2005 ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday afternoon at
Watt Field. After the Yellow Jackets went up 13-2 with 26:40 left in
the second half, Virginia Wesleyan tallied seven of the next nine goals
to cut the deficit to six at 15-9 with 10:24 remaining. Junior midfielder
Laura Wallace (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored three goals
and freshman midfielder Jillian Boyd (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) tallied
two goals over that stretch. However, the Marlins would get no closer
as R-MC closed the game on a 3-1 run. Boring finished with three goals and an assist for R-MC,
while sophomore attacker Lauren Shivone (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine)
tallied two goals and two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Lindsay Schabert
(Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) made 12 saves. The Marlins were led by Wallace, who scored four goals.
Boyd and sophomore midfielder Jamie Jones (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie)
each notched two goals. Sophomore Jacqui Downey (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale)
