W&L 5, Kenyon 1
September 13, 1997 -- Lexington, Va.
Washington and Lee junior forward Karin Treese scored three goals to lead
W&L's women's soccer team to a 5-1 win over nonconference foe Kenyon on
Saturday. With the win, the Generals are now 1-0 for the season, while
Kenyon falls to 1-5.
Kenyon jumped on top early, as Shannon Moroney scored off of an
assist from Kristin Yogg just 53 seconds into the game. After that,
however, it was all W&L. W&L senior Erica Reineke scored five minutes
later on a nice cross from junior Caroline Keen, to knot the score at 1-1
just six minutes into the contest, before Treese ripped off three
straight goals over the next 45 minutes to give W&L the commanding 4-1
lead with just under 40 minutes remaining in the game. Keen would tack on
another W&L goal with 19 minutes left in the game to set the final score
at 5-1.
W&L will play again tomorrow, when they host Randolph-Macon
Woman's College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest at 2:00
PM. Kenyon will host Mount Union Wednesday at 4:30 PM.
