W&L WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO LYNCHBURG, 1-0
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The third-seeded Washington and Lee
women's soccer team lost 1-0 to top-seeded Lynchburg College in the
ODAC Tournament Championship Game on Sunday afternoon in Lynchburg,
Va. The Hornets (20-1-1) scored the only goal of the game
57 seconds into the second half when Lauren Askey received a pass from
Kimberleigh Vaughan and fired her shot into the back of the Generals'
net. Washington and Lee senior goalkeeper Emily Barker (Clifton,
Va./Mount Vernon) made two saves while Erin Johnson stopped four shots
for Lynchburg. The Hornets outshot the Generals, 12-5, and held a 3-2
edge in corner kicks. Senior defender Kelley Zagol (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga),
junior defender Heather Rogers (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett School), and freshman
defender Haley Bunting (Bellaire, Texas/St. John's) were all named to

Wiederwax stopped three shots for the Marlins (15-3-2). Virginia Wesleyan outshot the Generals, 11-9, and held
a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. Washington and Lee will be gunning for its third consecutive ODAC Championship when it plays top-seeded Lynchburg in the ODAC Tournament Championship Game on Sunday at Lynchburg. over Roanoke on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field. The Generals (11-3-3) broke a scoreless tie when junior
midfielder Kerry Giblin (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional)
took a pass from junior midfielder Gina Von Sternberg (Houston, Texas/Episcopal)
and sent a bouncing shot home from 18-yards out. The W&L defense, led by senior goalie Emily Barker
(Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon), then held the rest of the way for the Generals'
ninth shutout of the season. Barker stopped one of the Maroons' four
shots for the game. Junior Emma Jones (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) posted seven
saves in goal for the Maroons (11-9). Washington and Lee returns to action on Friday as it faces the winner of the Virginia Wesleyan-RMWC game. LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore forward Anne Wiltshire (Richmond,
Va./Collegiate) recorded her second hat trick of the season to help
lead the Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over
Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field. Wiltshire opened up the scoring on an unassisted goal
with 11:17 gone-by. Less then five minutes later, Wiltshire gave the
Generals (10-3-3, 8-2-1) a 2-0 lead when she headed the ball into the
Royals' net, off a pass from sophomore midfielder Blair Haws (Fort Worth,
Texas/Trinity Valley). W&L went into halftime with a 2-0 advantage. Wiltshire scored her third goal on a penalty kick just
2:21 into the second stanza. Senior defender Kelley Zagol (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga)
gave W&L a 4-0 lead on an unassisted goal at 60:46. Freshman midfielder
Mary Clair Turner (Lexington, Ky./Sayre School) closed out the scoring
on a goal at 72:26. Zagol and freshman forward Martha Caulkins (Lynchburg,
Va./E.C. Glass) notched the assists. Senior goalkeeper Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon)
and freshman netminder Emily Binns (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) combined
to make one save for W&L. Sophomore Joy Shaiebly (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster
Mennonite) stopped 15 shots for the Royals (6-10-1, 4-6-1). Washington and Lee earned the number three seed and will host sixth-seeded Roanoke in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament on Saturday. in Sweet Briar, Va. The Vixens (3-9, 2-6) took a 1-0 lead just 1:09 into the
game when Kyli Izzi scored off a pass from Whitney Shaffer. Zagol tied
the game at 1-1 at the 21:31 mark when she received a pass from sophomore
forward Anne Wiltshire (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and buried the shot
into the back of Sweet Briar's net. Wiltshire gave the Generals (9-1-3, 7-1-1) a 2-1 lead
when she scored with two and a half minutes remaining in the first half.
Freshman defender Haley Bunting (Bellaire, Texas/St. John's) notched
the assist. W&L went into halftime with its 2-1 lead. Zagol ended the scoring just under nine minutes into the
second half with her second goal of the game. Wiltshire recorded her
second assist on the goal. W&L senior goalkeeper Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount
Vernon) played all 90:00 to earn her eighth victory of the season. Abby
Brown made eight saves for the Vixens. The Generals outshot Sweet Briar, 21-1, and had a 6-0

College on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field. In a very physical and defensive first half in which the
two teams were called for 23 fouls, the Generals (8-1-3, 6-1-1) got
on the scoreboard first at the 38:35 mark on a penalty kick by sophomore
forward Anne Wiltshire (Richmond, Va./Collegiate). Wiltshire took the
penalty kick after freshman forward Martha Caulkins (Lynchburg, Va./E.C.
Glass) dribbled down the left side of the field and into the 18-yard
box where she was pulled down by a Roanoke defender. Roanoke (7-5, 3-3) tied the score at 1-1 just over four
minutes later when senior forward Jill Hoffmeister (Norfolk, Mass./The
Rivers School) passed to senior midfielder Emily Ocheltree (Richmond,
Va./Douglas Freeman), who put her shot into the back of the Generals'
net. The game went into halftime tied at 1-1. Both teams had a number of scoring chances throughout
the second half and first overtime but it was the Generals who were
able to net the game-winner in the second overtime. Following a corner
kick, Helms fired a shot into the chest of Roanoke junior goalkeeper
Emma Jones (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive). Jones made the save but the ball
caromed back out to Helms, who buried her second shot into the back
of the Maroons' goal. Jones finished with 10 saves while W&L senior goalkeeper
Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) stopped seven shots. The Generals outshot Roanoke, 19-14, and held a 14-2 advantage

a span of 2:01 late in the second half to force a 2-2 tie with Washington
and Lee in ODAC women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Watt Field. The Generals (7-1-3, 5-1-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead with
32:12 gone-by as freshman forward Shana Oltmans (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley)
found the net unassisted. The lead pushed to 2-0 at the 67:16 mark when
sophomore forward Anne Wiltshire (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) scored off
a save and rebound. The Quakers (3-7-2, 2-2-2) were held in check until junior
forward Trina Scurka (Mt. Gilead, N.C./Cary) scored on an open goal
following a save by W&L senior goalkeeper Emily Barker (Clifton,
Va./Mount Vernon) at the 79:02 mark. Guilford then knotted the score
when sophomore forward Jennah Carter (Orlando, Fla./Oviedo) corralled
another rebounded shot and fired a shot home at the 80:59 mark. W&L had scoring chances near the end of regulation
and overtime, but could not beat GC sophomore goalkeeper Veronica Zych
(Champaign, Ill./University Lab School) who made several saves in the
final minutes of regulation and both overtimes to preserve the tie.
She posted 12 saves for the game. Barker notched four saves in goal for the Generals, who
held a 26-9 advantage in shots and an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. The Generals (7-1-2, 5-1) took a 1-0 lead just 5:43 into the game
on an unassisted goal by freshman forward Shana Oltmans (Albuquerque,
N.M./Valley). Oltmans made it 2-0 when she scored of a pass from Wiltshire
at 13:57. W&L went into the locker room at the half with the 2-0
lead. Wiltshire notched the first three goals for W&L in the second
half, starting at the 54:04 mark off a feed from sophomore forward
Sarah Helms (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park). Wiltshire gave the Generals
a 4-0 advantage with her second goal at 73:56. W&L would go onto
score three more goals over the next three and a half minutes. Emory & Henry (3-6-1, 1-2) was outshot, 33-0, and had a 15-0
disadvantage in corner kicks. It was the second time this season that

on the goal and Chowan took its 1-0 lead into halftime. After being held in check for about 65 minutes, the Generals
(5-1-2) were able to find the back of the Braves net on a goal by sophomore

Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon in Norfolk, Va. The Marlins (6-1-1, 2-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead with
7:38 gone-by when sophomore Kristen Byrnes scored off a pass from junior
Danielle Burns. Virginia Wesleyan extended its lead to 2-0 when senior
Keren Larkin found the back of the Generals net off a feed from freshman
Megan Clark at 23:00. W&L (4-1-2, 3-1) closed to within 2-1 at the 37:13

Wiltshire gave the Generals (3-0-2) a 1-0 lead at the
39:56 mark when she received a pass from sophomore defender Huntley
Rodes (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) and fired it into the back of
the Greensboro net. The W&L lead stood at 1-0 until six minutes into the
second half when sophomore midfielder Rebecca Cohn (Virginia Beach,
Va./Norfolk Academy) scored an unassisted goal. Less than nine minutes
later, W&L ended the scoring when Wiltshire set up sophomore forward
Sarah Helms (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park), who scored her first goal

W&L WOMEN' SOCCER DEFEATS RANDOLPH-MACON, 1-0 LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 1-0 win over ODAC-rival Randloph -Macon College this afternoon at Watt Field. The Generals (2-0-2, 2-0-0) received the only goal of the game at the 31:09 mark when junior midfielder Gina Von Sternberg (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) kicked the ball into the 18-yard box and a Randolph-Macon defender inadvertantly kicked the ball into her own goal. The Yellow Jackets (3-1-0, 0-1-0) had a chance to tie the game late in the second half on a shot by sophomore forward Lizzy Spero (Phoenix, Md./John Carroll) but the ball hit the crossbar and was cleared out by a Generals defender. W&L senior goalkeeper Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) made three saves to earn her third shutout in four games this season. Ky. The Generals (0-0-2) fired off all seven of their shots
in the second half and had seven corner kicks. Transylvania (3-0-1)
had eight shots and three corner kicks in the game. Washington and Lee senior goalkeeper Emily Barker (Clifton,
