W&L WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO MORAVIAN, 2-1, IN NCAA TOURNAMENT
CARLISLE, Pa. -- Moravian College's Megan Collins scored a pair of goals to lift the Greyhounds to a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Washington and Lee in the opening round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament held at Dickinson College. W&L (13-3-3) took a 1-0 lead at the 55:10 mark as freshman forward Anne Van Devender (Jackson, Miss./Choate Rosemary Hall) headed in a ball played by freshman defender Marisa Van Brunt (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) off a corner kick. However, the Generals' lead would be short-lived as Collins found the net off a free kick just 2:11 later to knot the game at 1-1. The game remained tied through one overtime, and Collins tallied the game-winner on another free kick 2:46 into the second overtime session. Freshman goalkeeper Kiki Moreo (Westport, Conn./Staples) played all 102:46 in goal, making two saves. Caitlin Corrigan also played the entire game in goal for the Greyhounds, posting three stops. Washington and Lee's season now comes to an end, while Moravian (16-5-1) advances to the second round where it will face regional host Dickinson. -- GENERALS -- GOALS W&L WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO LYNCHBURG, 1-0 LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior defender Kelly Vornadore (Springfield, Va./Bishop Ireton) scored an unassisted tally at the 68:10 mark to lift the third-seeded Lynchburg women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over second-seeded Washington and Lee in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field. Following a Hornets corner kick, the ball remained loose in the Generals' box until Vornadore fired a shot into the back of the W&L net. The Generals had a number of scoring chances in the first half, including a shot by senior midfielder Gina Von Sternberg (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) which was kicked towards the far corner of the net, but Lynchburg senior netminder Katie DeLorenzo (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic) made a diving save to keep the game scoreless. W&L freshman goalkeeper Kiki Moreo (Westport, Conn./Staples) made three saves and DeLorenzo stopped five shots. Lynchburg improved to 15-3-2 and advances to the ODAC Championship Game, while the Generals fell to 13-2-3 and will wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. -- GENERALS -- GOALS W&L WOMEN'S SOCCER SHUTS OUT EMORY & HENRY, 7-0 LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior forward Anne Wiltshire (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) notched a hat trick to help lead the second-seeded and 24th-ranked Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 7-0 win over seventh-seeded Emory & Henry in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field. The win was W&L's school-record 12th shutout of the season. The Generals (13-1-3) took a 1-0 lead just 3:30 into the game on an unassisted goal by freshman forward Anne Van Devender (Jackson, Miss./Choate Rosemary Hall). W&L extended its lead to 2-0 at 18:53 when Wiltshire scored off a feed from senior midfielder Gina Von Sternberg (Houston, Texas/Episcopal). Just 59 seconds later, Wiltshire notched an unassisted tally to make it 3-0. Sophomore forward Shana Oltmans (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) gave the Generals a 4-0 lead heading into halftime with an unassisted goal at 29:01. W&L extended its unbeaten streak to 15 consecutive games, while improving to 12-1-3 overall and 9-0-3 in the ODAC. It also tied the school record of 11 shutouts, which was set during the 2003 season. The Generals (8-1-2, 7-0-1) took a 1-0 lead at the 8:48 mark when Oltmans scored off a feed from Wiltshire. Just over seven minutes later, Wiltshire tallied an unassisted goal to make it 2-0. Oltmans then gave W&L a 3-0 lead heading into halftime on an unassisted tally at 32:25. With the tie, the Generals improved to 4-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the ODAC, while the Marlins improved to 7-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the ODAC. The Generals (3-1-1) dented the scoreboard at the 28:25 mark after sophomore forward Shana Oltmans (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) scored off a feed from junior forward Anne Wiltshire (Richmond, Va./Collegiate). W&L went into halftime with a 2-0 lead when senior defender Conner Esworthy (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) scored off an assist from sophomore defender Haley Bunting (Houston, Texas/St. John's) with just 47 seconds remaining in the half.
