REDLANDS, Calif. -- The Washington and Lee doubles tandem
of senior Erika Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) and sophomore
Lindsay Hagerman (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) fell, 8-6, 6-4, to DePauws
Haley Heathman and Liz Bondi in the womens tennis NCAA Division
III doubles semifinals on Monday in Redlands, Calif.
Proko and Hagerman, who were seeded first and ranked No.
1 in Division III, finish with a 30-2 record overall.
Heathman and Bondi, seeded No. 4, will face Emorys
second-seeded Mary Ellen Gordon and Jolyn Taylor for the championship.
Proko and Hagerman earned All-America honors for reaching
the semifinals in both singles and doubles.

REDLANDS, Calif. -- Washington and Lee senior Erika Proko
(Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) and sophomore Lindsay Hagerman (Dallas,
Texas/Highland Park) reached the womens tennis NCAA Division III
doubles semifinals on Sunday in Redlands, Calif. In singles, both Proko
and Hagerman fell in the semifinal round.
Proko and Hagerman, who are the tournaments No.
1 seed and are ranked No. 1 in Division III, tied the W&L record
for doubles wins in a season with their 30th (against one loss), 6-4,
5-7, 7-5 over Emorys Margaret Moscato and Emily Warburg. They
will face fourth-seeded Haley Heathman and Liz Bondi of DePauw in Mondays
semifinal round.
In singles, Proko (27-5) defeated Heathman (7-5, 7-5)
to reach the semifinals, where she fell, 6-3, 6-3, to Emorys top-seeded
Mary Ellen Gordon.
Hagerman (26-4) reached the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-3
defeat of defending national champion Elana Blanina of Methodist. Jolyn
Taylor of Emory, the No. 3 seed, defeated Hagerman, 6-2, 6-3, to set
up tomorrows all-Emory final.
The doubles semis are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
(PT) on Monday afternoon, with the finals to be played at 3:00 p.m.

REDLANDS, Calif. -- Washington and Lee senior Erika Proko
(Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) and sophomore Lindsay Hagerman
(Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) reached the womens tennis NCAA Division
III quarterfinals in both singles and doubles on Saturday in Redlands,
Calif.
Proko and Hagerman, the tournaments No. 1 seed and
the top-ranked doubles tandem in Division III, improved to 29-1 on the
season and reached the quarterfinals after defeating Pomona-Pitzers
Kelli Howard and Whitney Henderson, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Their next opponents
are the Emory tandem of junior Margaret Moscato and senior Emily Warburg.
Proko (26-4), who is seeded eighth in singles, reached
the final eight with wins over Cal Lutherans Jen Hansen
and Redlands Tatiana Steinberg. She defeated Hansen, 6-2, 6-4,
and Steinberg, 6-3, 6-2. Proko will face DePauw senior Haley Heathman,
the fourth seed, in the round of eight.
Sixth-seeded Hagerman (25-3) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over
Tufts Rebecca Bram. She reached the quarterfinals with a 6-2,
6-3 win over Amhersts Rachel Holt, and will square off with second-seeded
and defending NCAA champ Elana Blanina of Methodist in the quarters.
The quarterfinal and semifinal rounds in singles are
scheduled for 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. (PT) tomorrow, with the doubles
quarterfinals slated for 3:00 p.m.

W&L WOMENS TENNIS BREEZES TO ODAC CHAMPIONSHIP

at No. 1 singles

AMHERST, Va. -- The second-ranked Washington and Lee womens
tennis team won the Nos. 1-6 singles and Nos. 1-3 doubles flights to
capture its 13th ODAC Championship on Sunday in Amherst, Va.
Senior Erika Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) captured
the No. 1 singles title with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Roanokes Ashley
Fleming.
In the No. 2 singles flight, senior Laura Bruno (Roswell,
Ga./Chattahoochee) was a 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 winner over Randolph-Macons
Brooke Lambert.
Senior Brandi Jane Wedgeworth (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton
Head Christian) was the No. 3 singles titlist after defeating Hollins
Cayce Schnare, 6-4, 6-1.
Freshman Lisa Mabry (Memphis, Tenn./St. Marys Episcopal),
junior Elizabeth Law (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) and freshman Megan
Curran (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) won the Nos. 4-6 singles titles
with wins over competition from Hollins. Mabry defeated Kendra Henry
(6-1, 6-2), Law handled Emily Olsen (6-0, 6-0) and Curran knocked off
Jennifer Adkins (6-4, 6-4).
At No. 1 doubles, Bruno and Mabry teamed for the title
with an 8-3 victory against Bridgewaters Anne Yust and Holly Egnor.
Law and sophomore Lora Farris (Dallas, Texas/Highland
Park) earned the No. 2 doubles crown, defeating Randolph-Macons
Stefanie Mills and Amy Iden.
Proko and Wedgeworth won the No. 3 doubles championship
with an 8-3 triumph over Hollins Schnare and Olsen.
W&L will start play in the Division III NCAA Championships
on Sat., May 3, at a site and time to be determined.

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The second-ranked Washington and Lee
womens tennis team has yet to lose a match in the ODAC Championship
meet and advanced all six of its singles players to tomorrows
championship round on Saturday in Lexington, Va.
At No. 1 singles, senior Erika Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence
Day) defeated Hollins Alice Moss (6-1, 6-1) and Guilfords
Kelly Burger (6-2, 6-3) to reach the finals.
In the No. 2 singles flight, senior Laura Bruno (Roswell,

Episcopal) advanced to the title match with wins over Lynchburgs
Kathryn Andrews (6-1, 6-0) and Bridgewaters Sarah Kuhn (6-0, 6-1).
Junior Elizabeth Law (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) reached
the championship by knocking off Randolph-Macon Womans freshman
Stephanie De Los Reyes (6-0, 6-1) and Randolph-Macons Margaret
Gray (6-0, 6-0).
In the No. 6 singles flight, freshman Megan Curran (Lakeville,
Minn./Lakeville) reached the title match with wins over EMUs Sharon
Kniss (6-1, 6-1) and Emory & Henrys Laura Labadie (6-0, 6-2).

on Friday in Lexington, Va.
The Generals opened play by winning all three of their
first round doubles matches. In the No. 1 doubles flight, the tandem
of senior Laura Bruno (Roswell, Ga./Chattahoochee) and freshman Lisa
Mabry (Memphis, Tenn./St. Marys Episcopal) defeated Emory &
Henrys Trista McGlothlin and Cecille Lawson by an 8-2 count.
In No. 2 doubles, sophomore Lora Farris (Dallas, Texas/Highland
Park) and junior Elizabeth Law (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) defeated
Virginia Wesleyans Susan Robertson and Andrea Degirmenci, 8-4.
In the No. 3 doubles flight, seniors Erika Proko (Charlotte,
N.C./Providence Day) and Brandi Jane Wedgeworth (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton
Head Christian) teamed to defeat another Virginia Wesleyan duo, Erin
Bradley and Elainie Martin, 8-0.
W&L continues play tomorrow morning with play in both

W&L WOMENS TENNIS CONCLUDES PLAY AT ITA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The Washington and Lee womens
tennis teams No. 1 doubles tandem of senior Erika Proko (Charlotte,
N.C./Providence Day) and sophomore Lindsay Hagerman (Dallas, Texas/Highland
Park) earned a fifth place finish on Friday afternoon at the ITA National
Championships in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Proko and Hagerman won their first match against Denisons
Lauren Gerlach and Alison Hughes, 8-6, before defeating a duo from the
College of New Jersey, 8-3. For the tournament, W&Ls lone
entry compiled a 2-1 mark.
The tournament wraps up the fall season for the W&L
womens tennis team.

in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Proko and Hagermans match was with the UC-Santa
Cruz tandem of Katie Frick and Sarah Moglen.
Proko and Hagerman will battle for fifth place tomorrow
against Lauren Gerlach and Alison Hughes of Denison.

W&L WOMEN'S TENNIS HOSTS SUCCESSFUL FALL FESTIVAL
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens tennis team hosted
teams from Mary Washington and Liberty this Saturday and Sunday for
its annual Fall Festival Tournament in Lexington, Va. Seniors Erika
Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day), Alyson Brice (Houston, Texas/St.
Thomas Episcopal) and Brandi Jane Wedgeworth (Hilton Head, S.C./Hilton
Head Christian), along with sophomore Lindsay Hagerman (Dallas, Texas/Highland
Park), all went through the weekend undefeated in both singles and doubles
play.
In No. 1 singles, Proko, Hagerman, Wedgeworth and junior
Elizabeth Law (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) each won all three of their
matches for the weekend.
Freshman Lisa Mabry (Memphis, Tenn./St. Marys Episcopal)
and Brice were unblemished (3-0) in 2nd singles action.
In all-W&L finals, freshman Ingrid Easton (Charlotte,
N.C./Charlotte Country Day) defeated sophomore Lora Farris (Dallas,
Texas/Highland Park), 6-3, 6-1, to win the No. 3 singles title, while
freshman Megan Curran (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) held off classmate
Lauren Peters (Augusta, Ga./Lakeside) for the 4th singles crown, 6-4,
6-1.
In No. 1 doubles, the duos of Hagerman/Proko, Brice/Wedgeworth
and junior Ellie Simpson (Bluefield, Va./Graham) and sophomore Marie
Trimble (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) each compiled 3-0 marks
against their competition.
In another all-W&L final, the sophomore tandem of
Meredith Bailey (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) and Kristin Crawford (Manlius,
N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) brought home the No. 2 doubles championship
with an 8-6 victory against freshmen Curran and Laura Neller (Winter
Park, Fla./Phoenix Country Day).
The Generals will be in action again at the ITA National
Championships beginning this Thursday at a time that is yet to be determined.

W&L WOMEN'S TENNIS WRAPS UP PLAY AT THE ITA SOUTH REGIONAL
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens tennis team
brought home championships in No. 2 singles and No. 1-No. 2 doubles
at the ITA South Regional at Mary Washington College on Monday in Fredericksburg,
Va.
After dispatching their morning semifinal competition,
freshmen Patty Roberts (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) and Lisa Mabry (Memphis,
Tenn./St. Marys Episcopal) made it an all-W&L final in No.
2 singles. Mabry earned the championship by felling her teammate in
straight-sets, 6-3, 6-3.
In No. 1 doubles, the tandem of sophomore Lindsay Hagerman
(Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) and senior Erika Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence
Day) withstood the combined effort of Methodist Colleges Elena
Blanina and Carla Simpson, last years ITA national champions,
to win W&Ls second championship, 8-5.
Junior Ellie Simpson (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas Episcopal)
and sophomore Marie Trimble (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) defeated
Mary Washingtons Kirsten Agee and Susan Goodwin, 8-6, to win the
championship in No. 2 doubles.
After defeating Simpson in her semifinal match, Hagerman
settled for the runner-up slot in No. 1 singles after succumbing to
Blanina, the reigning NCAA singles champion, 6-4, 6-1.
The Generals will return to action the weekend of October
12-13 when they host their annual Fall Festival.

to tomorrows semifinals in singles and two doubles squads who

In the No. 1 singles bracket, sophomore Lindsay Hagerman (Dallas, Texas/Highland
Park) reached the semifinals after winning her two matches by scores
of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-0.
A pair of Generals reached the semifinals in the No. 2 singles draw.
Freshmen Patty Roberts (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) and Lisa Mabry (Memphis,
Tenn./St. Marys Episcopal) will both be competing for a berth
in the championship.
The duo of Hagerman and senior Erika Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence
Day) dispatched their competition from Hollins University and Carnegie
Mellon University by dual 8-1 scores to advance to the finals of the
No. 1 doubles bracket.

W&L WOMEN'S TENNIS OPENS SEASON AT ITA SOUTH REGIONAL
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee womens
tennis team began its fall season by competing in the ITA South Regional
at Mary Washington College Saturday in Fredericksburg, Va. In singles
action, seven Generals reached the quarterfinals -- five in the No.
1 singles bracket and two in the No. 2 singles draw. All five doubles
teams will continue play in the quarterfinals of both draws tomorrow.
Senior Erika Proko (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day), who
was the second seed in No. 1 singles, advanced to quarterfinal play
after dispatching Kathleen Hegedus and Emily Townsend by scores of 6-0,
6-2 and 6-0, 6-3. Third-seeded sophomore Lindsay Hagerman (Dallas, Texas/Highland
Park) earned her spot in the quarterfinals by winning her two matches
with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0. Also making it to the round of
16 for W&L were junior Elizabeth Law (Richmond, Va./Mills Goodwin)
and sophomores Elizabeth McCracken (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day)
and Marie Trimble (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central).
In the No. 2 singles bracket, freshmen Patty Roberts (Mechanicsville,

W&Ls five doubles entries all reached the round of 16 after

Head Christian), along with the teams of Law/McCracken and Hagerman/Proko
advanced in No. 1 doubles. In the No. 2 doubles bracket, the teams of
junior Ellie Simpson (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas Episcopal) and Trimble
and Mabry/Roberts both advanced.
The Generals will resume play on the quarterfinal round
Sunday morning, with the semifinals to be held in the afternoon. The
