HEAD COACH CINDA RANKIN
Rankin has built the Washington and Lee women's tennis program into
one of the best in the nation. As head coach for the past 18 years and
the co-head coach for the two years prior to that, she has compiled
an enviable record of 358-56 and led the Generals to 13 straight NCAA
Division III top six finishes, including national runner-up finishes
in 1996, 2003, 2005 and 2006.
Rankin, who also serves as W&L's assistant athletic director, became W&L's first full-time female athletic staff member in 1985 following the school's coeducation. She has helped bring women's athletics at W&L to national prominence and under her leadership W&L has developed a strong women's athletics program that includes nine varsity sports.
Rankin came to W&L after a successful coaching career
on the high school and collegiate levels. In three years at Humboldt
State University in California, Rankin took a losing basketball program
and turned it into a winner. On the high school level, Rankin was twice
selected the Virginia High School League's women's basketball Coach
of the Year after leading her Clifton Forge teams to the state championship
game in consecutive years.
