W&L TRACK & FIELD FOURTH AT ODAC CHAMPIONSHIP
SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens track
and field teams both finished fourth of five teams at the ODAC Championship
meet on Saturday in Salem, Va. Lynchburg won both the mens (178 points) and womens (188)
titles. Trailing the Hornets on the mens side were Bridgewater (138),
Eastern Mennonite (111), W&L (49) and Roanoke (47). In the womens
competition, Eastern Mennonite finished second (142), followed by Roanoke
(124), W&L (43) and Bridgewater (28). Senior Chris Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) led the W&L
men and was the Generals only titlist, winning his second consecutive
ODAC long jump title with a leap of 22 6-1/4. Sophomore Brian
Krupczak (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) had a solid day by placing second
in both the 100-meter dash (11.03) and long jump (22 1-3/4),
and third in the 200-meter dash (22.44). Junior Jonathan Brimer (Danbridge,
Tenn./Jefferson County) turned in a fifth-place time in the 200 (23.01)
and clocked a sixth-place time in the 100 (11.29). On the womens side, freshman Betsy Frayer (Grand Rapids, Mich./East
Grand Rapids) was the top performer, finishing second in the 5,000-meter
run (19:10.00). Junior Angel Daniels (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud), sophomore
Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) and freshman Mary Christopher
(Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) each earned six points for the
Generals with third-place performances. Daniels leapt 4 10
in the high jump, Barker put the shot 36 04 and Christopher
completed the 1,500-meter run in 5:08.50. Both teams will return to action on Sat., May 10. The men will compete
at the James Madison Invitational, while the women will be in action at
the UNC Last Chance Invitational. -- GENERALS -- W&L TRACK & FIELD COMPETES IN EMU ROYAL INVITATIONAL HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
track and field teams were in action at the EMU Royal Invitational on
Saturday in Harrisonburg, Va. There were no team scores kept as only individual efforts were tracked. Leading the W&L men were sophomore Brian Krupczak (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset)
and junior Jonathan Brimer (Danbridge, Tenn./Jefferson County). Krupczak
had finishes of third in the 200-meter dash (22.57) and second in the
long jump (6.28 meters), while Brimer placed fourth in the 100-meter dash
(11.41) and fifth in the 200 (23.04). Freshman Andrew Johnsons (Hardwick,
N.J./Blair Academy) time of 16:44.04 in the 1,500-meters was good for
fifth place. W&L won the the 4X100-meter relay, clocking a time of
42.93. On the womens side, freshman Betsy Frayer (Grand Rapids, Mich./East
Grand Rapids) was the top performer after finishing third in the 1,500-meter
run (5:09.43) and fifth in the 800-meter run (2:34.79). Junior Angel Daniels
(Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) placed second in the high jump (1.48 meters),
while sophomores Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) and
Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) finished third and fourth in
the javelin throw with heaves of 28.36 and 26.39 meters, respectively.
Sophomore Meredith Walker (Travelers Rest, S.C./Christ Church Episcopal)
added a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (13.65). Both teams return to action next Saturday when they compete in the ODAC Championship meet, which is hosted by Roanoke. -- GENERALS -- W&L TRACK & FIELD IN ACTION AT LYNCHBURG TRACK CLASSIC LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
track and field teams competed in the Lynchburg Track Classic on Saturday
in Lynchburg, Va. There were no team scores kept as only individual efforts were tracked. The Generals womens team was led by freshman Betsy Frayer
(Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids), who finished second in the 5,000-meter
run, clocking a time of 19:27.98. Classmate Mary Christopher (Fort Lauderdale,
Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run (5:14.83).
Sophomore Audrey Walker (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) paced the W&L
throwers, notching a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a heave
of 10.04 meters. On the mens side, the Generals earned first place in the distance
medley relay, crossing the tape in 11:04.21. Individually, sophomore Brian
Krupczak (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) was the pace-setter, finishing fifth
in the 100-meters (11.31), seventh in the 200-meters (22.48) and 10th
in the long jump (5.99 meters). Junior Jonathan Brimer (Danbridge, Tenn./Jefferson
County) clocked a 10th-place time in the 400-meter dash (51.73). Both teams return to action next Saturday at the Eastern Mennonite Invitational. -- GENERALS -- W&L TRACK & FIELD COMPETES AT BRIDGEWATER INVITATIONAL BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
track and field teams competed at the Bridgewater Invitational on Saturday
in Bridgewater, Va. There were no team scores kept as only individual efforts were tracked. Freshman Andrew Johnson (Hardwick, N.J./Blair Academy) led the W&L
men by finishing first in the 5,000-meter run (16:44.14) and third in
the 1,500-meter run (4:26.85). Other key performances were turned in by
sophomore Brian Krupczak (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) and junior Jonathan
Brimer (Danbridge, Tenn./Jefferson County). Krupczak crossed the tape
second in the 100-meter dash (11.45) and third in the 200-meter dash (22.94),
while Brimer was fifth in the 400-meter run (52.96) and sixth in the 200
(23.43). Junior James Watsons (Peachtree City, Ga./Starr's Mill)
heave of 34.18 meters in the discus placed him fifth. Sophomore Meredith Walker (Travelers Rest, S.C./Christ Church Episcopal)
led the W&L women with two fourths- and one fifth-place finish. Her
time of 13.44 and her leap 16 2 placed her fourth in the 100-meter
dash and the long jump, respectively, while her 200-meter dash time of
29.63 was good for fifth. In the 1,500-meter run, freshman Mary Christopher
(Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) recorded a second-place finish
(5:18.96), finishing just in front of classmate Betsy Frayer (Grand Rapids,
Mich./East Grand Rapids), who crossed the tape in 5:20.23. Frayer also
earned third place in the 3,000-meter run for her time of 11:09.82. Also
notching top-3-finishes were juniors Erin Johnson (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney)
and Angel Daniels (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud). Johnson placed third
in the 800-meter run (2:40.40), while Daniels was third in the high jump
(1.48 meters). The Generals mens and womens track and field teams next compete in the Lynchburg Invitational, which runs April 11-12. -- GENERALS -- W&L TRACK IN ACTION AT ROANOKE INVITATIONAL SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens track
and field teams were in action at the Roanoke Invitational on Saturday
in Salem, Va. The Washington and Lee women totaled 56 points to finish sixth of 10
teams, while the men compiled 64 points to finish seventh of nine teams.
Host Roanoke amassed 183.50 points to take first place on the womens
side. Trailing the Maroons were Ohio Northern (161), University of Charleston
(110), Capital (99), Southern Virginia (58), W&L, UPJ (47), Thiel
(39), Bridgewater (36) and Susquehanna (16). Ohio Northerns 175.50 points was good for first in the mens
competition. Roanoke (131), Bridgewater (88), Thiel (79), Southern Virginia
(76), Capital (75), W&L (64), University of Charleston (47.50) and
Susquehanna (30) rounded out the competition. Sophomore Meredith Walker (Travelers Rest, S.C./Christ Church Episcopal)
was the high point-scorer for the Generals. Her leap of 16 1-1/4
earned her a tie for first in the long jump, while she also scored with
a ninth-place time in the 200-meter dash (28.87). Sophomore Jessica Remmert
(Newfoundland, Canada/Prince of Wales) and junior Samantha Snabes (Westland,
Mich./Wayne Memorial) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the
10,000-meter run with times of 44:58.94 and 45:42.66. In the 5,000-meter
run, freshman Betsy Frayer (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) contributed
a fifth-place finish (20:07.31). The W&L men were led by sophomore Brian Krupczak (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset),
who finished first in the 200-meter dash (22.72) and second in the 100-meter
dash (11.37) and long jump (21). Senior Chris Sullivan (San Antonio,
Texas/Alamo Heights) won the long jump with a leap of 21 1-1/4
and finished seventh in the javelin with a heave of 142 10.
Junior Rusty Meyer (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) and freshman Andrew
Johnson (Hardwick, N.J./Blair Academy) both finished third in the 1,500-
and 5,000-meter runs with times of 4:15.81 and 16:34.40, respectively.
Both teams will be in action next Saturday at the Bridgewater Invitational. -- GENERALS -- W&L TRACK HOSTS OWN INVITATIONAL LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
track teams kicked off their outdoor seasons by hosting the 2003 W&L
Track and Field Invitational on Saturday at Wilson Field. Two-time defending champ John Carroll won its third consecutive mens
title, while Susquehanna successfully defended its womens crown.
On the mens side W&L finished in seventh place with 29 points
to trail John Carroll (118 points), Susquehanna (94.5), Centre (64), DeSales
and Bridgewater (45) and Frostburg State (42). Thiel (26), Sewanee (20),
Southern Virginia (16.5) Roanoke (11), Christopher Newport (10) and Alfred
(6) rounded out the competitors. The Generals womens team totaled 33 points to earn a sixth-place
finish. Titlist Susquehanna (105) was followed by Roanoke (98), Centre
(64), Frostburg State (63) and John Carroll (56). Rounding out the scoring
was Thiel (29), Southern Virginia (26), Sewanee (19), Christopher Newport
(18), Alfred (12) and Bridgewater (3). Senior Chris Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) was the top
performer for the W&L men. He leapt 22 2-1/2 to win the
long jump, clocked a time of 11.39 to place second in the 100-meter dash
and heaved the javelin 151 3-1/2 to finish sixth in the javelin.
Sophomore Brian Krupczak (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) earned points by finishing
fourth in the long jump (21 4-3/4) and fifth in the 200-meter
dash (22.99). W&Ls 4X100-meter relay team finished fourth, crossing
the tape in 43.83. Throwers were the top point-scorers for the W&L women. Sophomore
Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) finished second in the shot put
(34 11) and third in the discus (102 2-1/2) in
her first-ever meet, while classmate Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William
G. Enloe) placed second in the javelin (106 4). Other top
performers were freshmen Mary Christopher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal
Gibbons) and Megan Ward (Lindsay, Texas/Lindsay), who finished fourth
(5:19.93) and fifth (5:21.73), in the 1,500-meter run. Both teams will be in action next Saturday at the Roanoke Invitational. -- GENERALS -- W&L INDOOR TRACK AT ODAC CHAMPIONSHIPS LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
indoor track teams were in action competing in the ODAC Championships
on Saturday at VMIs Cormack Field House. The Generals womens team amassed 31 points to earn fourth
place out of five teams, while the W&L mens teams 31 points
placed them in fifth place of five teams. Lynchburg won both the womens
(165 points) and mens (137 points) titles. On the womens side,
Lynchburg was trailed by Roanoke (120), Eastern Mennonite (104), W&L
and Bridgewater (9) and on the mens side by Eastern Mennonite and
Bridgewater (106), Roanoke (48) and W&L. Junior Angel Daniels (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) and freshman Elizabeth
Twentyman (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) were the top point-scorers
for the women, finishing third in the high jump (4 9-3/4)
and 800-meter run (2:38.02), respectively. Also earning six points apiece
for third-place finishes were the 4X400- (4:38.27) and 4X800-meter (14:24.89)
relay teams. The Generals men were led by senior Chris Sullivan (San Antonio,
Texas/Alamo Heights), who finished second in the 55-meter dash (6.63)
and the long jump (21 5-1/4). Junior Jonathan Brimer (Danbridge,
Tenn./Jefferson County) and sophomore Brian Krupczak (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset)
also turned in point-earning performances. Brimer finished third in the
55-meter dash (6.64) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (24.50), while Krupczak
placed third in both the 200 (24.08) and long jump (21 3-3/4). The ODAC Championships mark the end of the Generals indoor track season. -- GENERALS -- W&L TRACK IN ACTION AT CNU WINTER FROLIC NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
indoor track teams were in action competing in Christopher Newports
Winter Frolic on Saturday in Newport News, Va. There were no team scores kept as only individual efforts were tracked. Senior Chris Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) paced the W&L
men with a fifth-place finish in the Division III 60-meter dash (7.29),
a seventh-place finish in the long jump (22 2) and a 13th-place
finish in the 200-meter dash (23.60). Other top performers for the Generals
were sophomore Chris Walker (Centreville, Va./Paul IV) and freshman Andrew
Johnson (Hardwick, N.J./Blair Academy). Walker finished 13th in the weight
throw (33 2 ) and 18th in the shot put (37 6),
while Johnson placed 24th in the 1,500-meter run (4:20.54). The W&L women were paced by sophomore Audrey Walker (Bronxville,
N.y./Bronxville) who earned a 12th-place finish in the shot put with a
heave of 30 10-1/2. Freshman Elizabeth Twentyman (Falls Church,
Va./George Mason) placed 16th in the 1,500-meter run with a time 5:19.26.
In the 5,000-meter run, junior Samantha Snabes (Westland, Mich./Wayne
Memorial) and sophomore Jessica Remmert (Newfoundland, Canada/Prince of
Wales) crossed the tape within seconds of one another, finishing 16th
and 17th with times of 21:35.41 and 21:41.62, respectively. The Generals will take next weekend off in preparation for the indoor ODAC Championships on Sat., Feb. 22, at VMIs Cormack Field House. -- GENERALS --
W&L TRACK COMPETES IN VMI WINTER RELAYS LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
indoor track teams were in action competing in the VMI Winter Relays on
Saturday at VMIs Cormack Field House. There were no team scores kept as it was only individual efforts that
were tracked. Leading the way for W&L were sophomore Brian Krupczak (Cohasset,
Mass./Cohasset) and freshman Andrew Johnson (Hardwick, N.J./Blair Academy).
Krupczak finished sixth in the 200-meter dash (24.23), while Johnsons
time of 4:48.39 was good for seventh in the one-mile run. Sophomore Chris
Walkers (Centreville, Va./Paul IV) heaves of 11.10 meters and 9.42
meters in the shot put and weight throw were good for finishes of 21st
and 14th, respectively. Freshman Mary Christopher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) recorded
the top finish for the W&L women by placing fifth in the one-mile
run (5:55.97). Junior Erin Johnson (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) finished eighth,
covering the mile in 6:11.21. Johnson also placed 15th in the 800-meter
dash (2:45.24). In the high jump, junior Angel Daniels (Charleston,
S.C./Porter-Gaud) leap of 1.47 meters was good for an eighth-place finish.
The W&L mens and womens track teams will be in action again next weekend competing in the Christopher Newport Invitational. Events are scheduled to get underway on Friday, with the action continuing throughout the day on Saturday. -- GENERALS -- W&L TRACK OPENS SEASON AT CNU INVITATIONAL NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Washington and Lee mens and womens
indoor track teams opened their seasons by competing in the Christopher
Newport Invitational this Friday and Saturday in Newport News, Va. There were no team scores kept as it was only individual efforts that
were tracked. The W&L men were paced by junior Jonathan Brimer (Danbridge, Tenn./Jefferson
County), sophomore Chris Walker (Centreville, Va./Paul IV) and freshman
Andrew Johnson (Hardwick, N.J./Blair Academy). Brimer placed fifth in
the Division III 60 meter dash with a time of 7.49, while Walker was 20th
in the shot put with a heave of 38-11.5. Johnsons time
of 9:31.07 was good for 19th in the 3000 meter run. Sophomore Meredith Walker (Travelers Rest, S.C./Christ Church Episcopal)
led the Generals womens squad, finishing sixth in the Division
III 60 meter dash with a time of 8.84. Junior Samantha Snabes (Westland,
Mich./Wayne Memorial) and sophomore Jessica Remmert (Newfoundland, Canada/Prince
of Wales) finished 14th and 15th in the 5000 meter run with times of 22:11.29
and 22:22.16, respectively. The Generals will be back in action next Saturday when they compete in the VMI Invitational. The starting time has not yet been announced. -- GENERALS -- |
